Wayne State’s Ky’Lee Engelken finished sixth overall in a time of 20:05 on a very challenging 5,000 meter course at the Concordia University Open held in Seward, Nebraska. The competition was against a tough field which included NAIA Nationally ranked teams of Concordia University and Morningside College. She helped lead the Wildcats to a 3rd place team finish.

Augustana Picked in NSIC Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll

Burnsville, Minn. - Defending NSIC Women’s Team Champions of Augustana College were the top choice in the 2010 NSIC Cross Country Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Minnesota Duluth will lay claim to the women’s Preseason Athlete of the Year in Morgan Place.

The Vikings garnered seven top votes as they amassed 97 points. The University of Mary and Minnesota Duluth tied for second place in the poll with 88 points. Minnesota State was fourth with 70 points while Winona State was fifth with 64 points.

PhotoMinnesota Duluth’s Morgan Place returns to the NSIC as a junior in 2010 after dominating the league her first two years. She earned All-American honors the last two years finishing seventh at the NCAA II Championships as a freshman and sixth as a sophomore. She won the NCAA II Central Regional last season with a 6K time of 21:39 making her the second regional individual titleholder UMD has ever produced, joining Karen Walczak (1994) in that elite group. Place was the NSIC Women’s Preseason Athlete of the Year last year as well.

NSIC Cross Country teams will compete in various meets throughout the fall with the season culminating in Wayne, Neb. on Saturday, November 6th at the NSIC Cross Country Championships. The NCAA Regional will take place two weeks later on Saturday, November 20th again in Wayne, Neb. The NCAA DII National Meet will be hosted by Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky and run at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park on December 4th.
