Lange led the NSIC in kills last week as she had 52 on the week (5.78 k/g) as she moved to second all-time in a UMD career with 1,759. She hit .444 (52K-8E-99TA) over three matches including a .543 (19K-0E-35TA) performance in a 3-0 win over Minot State. She also added five blocks (one solo), a pair of service aces, and 19 digs. Lange’s 6.56 points per game also led the league last week. This marks the second time this season Konetchy has earned NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors (9/9/13).

Konetchy averaged an incredible 15.00 assists per game (120 total assists) in Concordia’s two wins on the weekend while also chipping in 22 digs and a pair of aces. Friday was perhaps Amanda Konetchy’s best performance of her impressive college career as she finished the match with an NSIC record 77 assists and also added a career high 17 digs in the match. Her 77 assists surpassed CU’s Maggie McNamara's mark of 75 set in 2006 and 2007 vs. Wayne State. She added had 43 assists in Saturday’s three game sweep of the Augustana Vikings. Konetchy now leads the NSIC with 13.21 assists per game.This marks the fourth time this season Konetchy has earned NSIC Setter of the Week honors (9/13/13, 9/30/13, 10/7/13).

Krenske had a solid weekend in the libero spot, recording 43 digs in two matches. She had 25 digs in a three-set win over Bemidji State on Saturday after recording 18 on Friday in a loss to Minnesota Crookston. She averaged a league high 5.38 digs per set for the week with only one reception error.

Augustana expanded its win streak to six matches with a win over Minnesota State before falling at the hands of No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul. In Friday’s four-set win over the Mavericks, Courtney Ysker and Holly Hafemeyer combined for 36 kills to lead the Vikings. Augustana also tallied nine blocks with Kelsey Kaufmann (five) and Taylor Hrdlichka (four) providing the front line defense. Against No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul, the Vikings couldn’t keep their streak alive as they fell in straight sets on Saturday. Holly Hafemeyer came just two kills shy of reaching 1,000 for her career when she hit an Augustana-high 13 kills. On the weekend, Marissa Johnson dished out 79 assists in her seven sets of work.
Holly Hafemeyer (MB, 6-3, Sr., Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) led the Vikings with 29 kills (4.14/set) and six total blocks as Augustana split at home this past weekend. Against Minnesota State, Hafemeyer hit .375 (16-4-32) and tallied four total blocks (one solo, three assist) registering 18.5 points in a four-set win. The following evening, Hafemeyer was the only Viking to register double-digit kills -- her 13 kills left her two short of 1,000 for her career. Hafemeyer again led the defensive front too, with two blocks against top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul. Hafemeyer has now recorded double-digit kills in eight straight matches and in 14 of 17 matches this season.
Marissa Johnson (S, 5-8, So., Omaha, Neb./Burke HS) tallied 79 assists (11.28/set) in Augustana’s two matches as the Vikings split at home this weekend. In Friday’s win over Minnesota State, Johnson dished out 46 assists, helping the Vikings to hit 58 kills and take down the Mavericks in four sets. Johnson came one dig short of reaching her fifth double-double of the year. Johnson tallied 33 assists (11.00/set) against Concordia-St. Paul and added six digs for the Vikings.
Brittany Cech (OH, 5-9, Fr., Omaha, Neb./Elkhorn South) scooped up 31 digs (4.43/set) to lead the Vikings this weekend in a split at home. Cech tallied a match-high 19 digs in a four-set win over Minnesota State -- a 4.75 digs/set average. Cech tallied 12 digs in the second set against the Mavericks. Against Concordia-St. Paul, Cech picked up a team-high 12 digs (4.0/set) bringing her freshman season total to 201.

Kayla DeJong (DS, 5-8, So., Jefferson, Wis.) had a solid weekend in setting the tone for Bemidji State’s defense. The sophomore defensive specialist had 32 digs over the weekend against Northern State and MSU Moorhead including a 21-dig performance against MSUM.
Courtney Volkmann (S, 5-7, Jr., Wadena, Minn.) tallied 47 assists in the two matches against Northern State and MSU Moorhead. Volkmann also chipped in nine digs in the two contests.

Kayla Koenecke (RS, 5’9”, Sr., Delano, Minn. / HS) was outstanding for the Golden Bears in helping them extend their winning streak to 15 with 36 kills (4.88 per game) and 35 digs (4.38 per game) on the weekend. Koenecke set a new career high in what has been an illustrious career with 25 kills on Friday night against the #15 Wayne State Wildcats and also chipped in 19 digs to pick up the double-double. On Saturday, she once again picked up a double-double, her tenth of the year, with 14 kills and 16 digs. Koenecke hit an efficient .500 in the set and .395 on the weekend. Her .423 hitting percentage on the year leads the NSIC.

Concordia moved to 17-1 and 9-0 in the NSIC on the season with two big road wins over #15 Wayne State and Augustana. The Golden Bears were able to avenge their only loss of the year in a five set thriller against the Wildcats on Friday. CU jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Wayne battled back to force a deciding fifth set. Concordia took care of business in the fifth set to put the match away. The Golden Bears extended their winning streak to 15 matches with a sweep of the Vikings on Saturday. CU has won 23 straight in NSIC regular season play.

Struggles continued for the University of Mary volleyball team, as both St. Cloud State University and #2 University of Minnesota Duluth swept them. U-Mary played strong in the first set against SCSU hitting .323 and battled in the second set losing by just two, but ultimately were unable to get over the hump as they lost in three. Against St. Cloud State, freshman Janell Finkbeiner (S, 5-8, Fr., Ramsey, Minn. / Elk River HS) set a new 3-set match-high with 28 assists. Defensively, Alex Brown (DS, 5-4, Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn. / Blaine HS) set a new 3-set match-high with 15 digs and Allison Adams (MB, 6-0, Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest HS) tied her career-high with seven blocks. Facing a top-10 team for the third consecutive week, U-Mary could not handle UMD’s offensive attack as the Bulldogs hit .424. Alexis Jacobs (OH, 5-11, R-Fr., Bismarck, N.D. / Century HS) was a bright spot for the Marauders in the match finishing with a team-high 11 kills and eight digs. Jacobs finished the weekend with 23 kills in six sets (3.83 kills/set) , five blocks (0.83 blocks/set) and 12 digs (2.0 digs/set).

Brittany Looker (Jr., OH, Rochester, Minn.) - Looker led the team with 16 kills and hit .159 in a 3-2 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead Friday on the road. The win over the Dragons was the first in 16 matches for the Golden Eagles as UMC had not beaten MSU Moorhead since 2004. It was the first win for any current player over the Dragons and current head coach Lee Anderson. Looker added 15 digs to complete a double-double for the match. Against Northern State in a 3-0 loss, Looker had nine kills.
The Golden Eagles will return home for matches against Minot State University and University of Mary. They enter the weekend with a 3-6 mark overall and are 3-6 in league play.

The Bulldogs earned a pair of NSIC wins on their road trip to Minot State and U-Mary over the weekend, and previously defeated Northern Michigan in non-conference action on Tuesday night. UMD returns home this upcoming weekend for its “Dig Pink” charity game on Friday.

Junior libero Julie Rainey had 42 digs in three matches. She now has 1,470 for her career, good for fourth all-time among Bulldogs. She had just two reception errors in 29 opportunities.
Sophomore setter Ashley Hinsch collected 111 assists in three matches for the Bulldogs. She had just one error on 155 chances. She also added five kills on the week and had six block-assists in Friday’s match with Minot State.

The Minnesota State volleyball team fell to 8-8 overall with a mark of 4-5 in NSIC action this past weekend as it fell to Augustana 3-1, before dropping a 3-0 decision to No. 15 Wayne State. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Chandra Honebrink (Waconia, Minn.) who recorded 26 kills (3.71 per set), while hitting .345 in the two matches.

Maggie Gruber (MB, 6-2, Jr., Belgrade, Minn./Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa HS) led the Dragon offense with 33 kills in too matches last week. She had 18 kills in a five-set home loss to Minnesota Crookston on Friday and followed with a solid 15-kill match during the Dragons’ sweep of Bemidji State on Saturday. In the Bemidji State win, Gruber hit .333 in 30 attack attempts. Gruber also had 10 total blocks on the week.
Sam Sullivan (S, 5-11, Jr., Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had solid week setting for MSUM, recording 89 assists in two matches. Sullivan averaged 11.12 assists per set for the week. She had 54 set assists in a five-set loss to Minnesota Crookston and followed with 35 assists in a sweep of Bemidji State on Saturday.

The Beavers dropped two Northern Sun matches this weekend as they fell in straight sets to No. 2 University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday night and then dropped to St. Cloud State in four sets on Saturday night in the Minot State Dome. Mallory Sall (So., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) led Minot State (7-11 overall, 3-6 NSIC) on the weekend with 25 kills and a .285 hitting percentage. As a team, MISU just didn’t have an efficient offensive attack as they made 48 hitting errors and hit just .112 in the two matches while opponents hit an average of .408. Minot State will look to end their three-match losing streak on the road as they travel to face University of Minnesota Crookston (8-9 overall, 3-6 NSIC) on Friday and then Bemidji State University (5-12 overall, 1-8 NSIC) on Saturday night.

Kelsey Chambers (OH, So., Jordan, Minn., Jordan HS) had 13 kills in each match over the weekend and averaged 4.33 kills per set in the two Northern State sweeps to lead the Wolves. Chambers hit .415 for the weekend and also totaled 16 digs and three total blocks.
Drew Smith (So., Ames, Iowa, Ames HS) had a huge weekend for NSU as she averaged 14.33 assists per set over the weekend and totaled 86 assists in the two wins. Against Minnesota, Crookston, Smith averaged a whopping 15 assists per set as she compiled 45 in the sweep. Smith also had seven digs and a block against the Golden Eagles. Against Bemidji State, Smith had 41 assists, six digs and a block against the Beavers. Smith setup an offense that hit .368 against BSU and .366 against UMC
Sami Nygaard (Sr., Milbank, S.D., Milbank HS) led the Wolves with 30 total digs over the weekend (5 per set). Nygaard recorded 16 digs and two digs in Northern’s win over Bemidji State and followed that up with 14 digs and two more assists in the sweep over Minnesota, Crookston.

The University of Sioux Falls volleyball team (11-7, 3-6) split their two-game homestand, sweeping Upper Iowa but dropping a back-and-forth five setter to Winona State. The Cougars rolled the Peacocks (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) andwere near perfect in the second set.pounded 13 kills with one error for a .600 mark. It was the Cougars’ first-ever win against Upper Iowa. Junior Samantha Lovell, who had seven kills, went 5-for-5 in the second set. Freshman Jordan Calef had an astounding match, putting down six kills with a .667 hitting clip (6-0-9). The Cedar Rapids native nearly out-blocked the Peacocks, finishing with a match-best five block assists. The Warriors knocked USF off 3-2 on Homecoming Saturday. Set scores were 17-25, 25-22, 25-7, 12-25, 15-11. The Cougars battled back after being blitzed 25-7 in the third set to send the match to the decisive fifth frame. USF led 9-8 when the teams switched sides but the Warriors (6-12, 3-6) rallied with a three-point skein to clinch the match and their third league victory. Junior Emily Johnson floored a match-best 15 kills, upping her career kill total to 992. Kate Hart chipped in 10 kills, while Michelle Ritland had nine terminations.
The Cougars were out-hit .217-.150 in a match where they went hot-cold from set to set. USF dominated the opening set with a .393 clip (14-3-28), but cooled to a .161 team attack (10-5-31) in WSU’s 25-22 set two win. The Warriors crushed USF .385- -.212 (5-12-33) in a 25-7 set three rout but the Cougars bounced back with authority in set four, holding WSU to a .097 clip en route to a 25-12 win. A sprint to the finish turned into an endurance race in the fifth set. When the two teams switched sides, the Cougars led 9-8, with neither team able to establish an advantage. A Saugen kill sparked a 3-0 run for Winona, who netted four of the last six points to clinch the Homecoming upset of the Cougars. The Cougars tallied seven service aces, including four from Becky Wessel. The match lasted one hour and fifty three minutes and was USF’s fifth five-set match of the season of which the team is 2-3. USF travels to Concordia-St. Paul ((17-1, 9-0 NSIC) on Friday.

Claire Sames (MB, 5-8, So., Shakopee, Minn. / Shakopee) had a career weekend for No. 6 Southwest Minnesota Sate in the sweeps of Upper Iowa and Winona State. The undersized middle blocker finished the weekend with a .525 hitting percentage on 40 attacks. She committed just two errors all weekend long while collecting 23 kills and averaging 3.83 kills per set. On Friday night versus Winona State, Sames broke her career record for hitting percentage when she finished the match with 11 kills, one error and 19 attacks. She flirted with breaking her newly set mark the very next night versus Upper Iowa but came up just shy as she finished with a .524 hitting percentage. Versus Winona State she pounded 12 kills on 21 attempts with only one error. Sames is hitting a team-high .352 on the season with 181 kills. Sames owns a .373 hitting percentage in conference matches this season which ranks her third in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Emilee Gutzmer (S, 5-8, So., Jordan, Minn. / Jordan) paced the No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State offense to a .356 hitting percentage (92-24-191) in the sweeps over Winona State and Upper Iowa. Gutzmer finished the six set weekend with 80 assists, 13 digs and chipped in with three kills with her aggressive play at the net. She finished the two matches with a 13.3 assist per set average. On the season she is averaging a 12.39 assist per set average which ranks her third in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and within the top five in the NCAA.
Rachel Westby (L, 5-7, Sr., Marshall, Minn. / Marshall) used her solid back row play to lead No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State defensively to sweeps of Winona State and Upper Iowa. Westby finished the six set weekend with a 4.17 dig per set average. The senior libero collected 25 digs in total including 13 on Friday versus Winona State. She now owns a 5.16 dig per set average in conference matches this season which ranks her second in the NSIC.

On Friday, the St. Cloud State University volleyball team traveled to Bismarck, N.D. where they took on the Marauders of the University of Mary. The two teams battled tough, but the Huskies came out on top, winning three straight sets with scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-21. Dani Domeier (Norwood Young America) had a team-high 10 kills, eight digs and three service aces. Allison Butler (Burnsville) recorded eight kills, seven digs and three blocks. Butler posted a team-high .538 attack percentage. On Saturday, the Huskies took on Minot State University. St. Cloud State won the first two sets handily, defeating the Beavers 25-19 and 25-14. Minot State battled back and took the third set 25-23. St. Cloud State clinched the match with a 25-15 fourth set victory. With this weekend’s victories, the Huskies improve to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in the NSIC. They are now on a four-match win streak. This bumps St. Cloud State into third place in the conference standings. The Huskies have now won two more matches already this season than they did during all of 2012. Dani Domeier led the Huskies with 15 kills this evening, while hitting a .375 attack percentage. Domeier collected her fifth double-double of the season, as she also managed to collect 13 digs. Ellie Dietzen (Black Creek, Wis.) posted ten kills, while Kellan Flynn (Tomahawk, Wis.) and Allison Butler each finished with nine. Butler hit .348 during the match and collected two service aces, five digs and four blocks. She currently ranks fourth in the NSIC in service aces per set with 25 on the year and .41/set. Her utility play has been phenomenal for the Huskies.

The Peacock volleyball team lost a pair of road matches in the NSIC this past weekend at Sioux Falls and #6 Southwest Minnesota State. Both matches were lost in straight sets and pushed UIU’s losing streak to five. Sophomore Jennifer Mundt led the Peacocks with 21 kills in the two matches including 15 against the #6 Mustangs of SMSU. Upper Iowa will finally return home to Fayette for a pair of matches this weekend; they mark the only home matches in the month of October for the Peacocks. UIU will host the #15 Wildcats of Wayne State College on Friday night and then turn around to take on the Vikings of Augustana College on Saturday.

Alyssa Frauendorfer, a 6-0 freshman middle/outside hitter from Humphrey, Neb. (Humphrey HS), led WSC in hitting this weekend averaging 3.12 kills with 0.62 blocks while hitting .468 against #1 Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State. Frauendorfer accounted for 16 kills while hitting .412 with four blocks in Friday’s 3-2 loss to Concordia-St. Paul and added nine kills with a .615 attack percentage (9-1-13) to go with six digs in Wayne State’s 3-0 sweep over Minnesota State. For the season, Frauendorfer is now hitting .313 for the Wildcats while averaging 2.44 kills per game.
Setter Leisa McClintock averaged 10.12 assists per set for WSC, handing out 54 assists against CU and 27 against MSU.
Wayne State’s win Saturday over Minnesota State made Scott Kneifl the all-time winningest coach in Wildcat history. He is now 215-74 in his ninth season at Wayne State and surpassed Sharon Vanis, who was 214-213 in 12 seasons (1993-2004) at Wayne State.

The junior began the weekend with seven kills against SMSU and added nine kills and a .296 hitting percentage in a victory over Sioux Falls. She also passed out a pair of assists while collecting three digs and nine total blocks.

Seeing the first action of her Winona State career, Kylea Roeglin had a solid weekend, posting ten blocks against SMSU and Sioux Falls. Roeglin had eight total blocks against Sioux Falls on Saturday. She also had ten kills in the match while hitting .304.
Elena Kruesel, S, Sr., 5-9, Grafton, Wis. (Dominican)
Elena Kruesel paced the Warrior offense, handing out 28 assists in two matches last weekend. Kruesel recorded 24 of those assists in the team’s victory over Sioux Falls. She also had four digs and a block assist on the weekend.
