Lovell hit a league high .532 with 30 kills on 47 attempts and only five errors as the Cougars went 2-1 on the week, including a five set come from behind win at No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State.   Lovell had 10 kills and threw down a career-best 11 blocks, three of the solo variety, in the team’s first ever win over and NCAA DII ranked opponent. Bolstered by Lovell’s 11 kills and .600 attack percentage, USF finished with a .465 team hitting clip in their 3-0 win over Bemidji State, its second highest clip of the season.   Lovell also led the NSIC this past week with her 1.73 blocks per game as she amassed 19 stuffs over the three matches.

Hinsch had a career night against No. 17 Wayne State, collecting 70 assists in the five-set affair. On the week, she averaged 13.55 assists per set. She also collected six kills, paired up on three blocks, dropped in two services aces, and collected 17 digs.This marks the second time this season Hinsch has been NSIC Setter of the Week (9/23/13).

Rainey collected 69 digs in three matches for UMD, an NSIC high average of 6.27 per set. Her defensive efforts were key as the Bulldogs battled against No. 17 Wayne State, evident by her 6.0 per-game average. She had just one reception error in 63 chances. This marks the third time this season Rainey has been NSIC Defensive Player of the Week (9/9 & 10/713).

Augustana came out of one of their toughest stretches of the schedule with a 1-2 record with both losses coming against ranked teams. On Tuesday night, Augustana surrendered an eight-point lead in the first set to No. 17 Wayne State and the Wildcats used their momentum to sweep the Vikings. Augustana bounced back with a four-set win over St. Cloud State on Friday. Closing the week, the Vikings were outmatched against No. 4 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
Holly Hafemeyer (MB, 6-3, Sr., Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) tallied 39 kills in three matches over the past week. Hafemeyer nearly totaled a new career-high when she drilled 21 in four-set win against St. Cloud State on Friday. Hafemeyer picked up her first error after hitting 17 kills to open the match. Hafemeyer also tallied eight total blocks against the Huskies and finished the weekend with 13 total blocks.
Marissa Johnson (S, 5-8, So., Omaha, Neb./Burke HS) led the Vikings with 114 assists in three matches (11.4/set) over the past week. Johnson dished out 52 in the Vikings’ four-set win over St. Cloud State.  Behind Johnson’s setting, the Vikings hit at a .315 clip, their highest in nearly five weeks.
Courtney Ysker (OH, 5-9, Jr., Windom, Minn./Windom-Area HS) picked up 41 digs in three matches, recording double-digits in each. Ysker has now reached double figures in digs in the past 10 matches and 16 total on the season. Ysker kept the Vikings’ upset chances alive against Minnesota Duluth with 16 digs the most of the weekend for Ysker.

Kayla Koenecke (RS, 5’9”, Sr., Delano, Minn. / HS) had an efficient week for the Golden Bears, hitting .452 with 42 kills on just 73 attempts.   Koenecke showed her versatility by adding 21 digs, nine assists, seven blocks and a pair of aces on the week.  She picked up her 12th double-double on the year on Friday with 17 kills, 13 digs and five blocks and followed it up with 16 kills and a .619 hitting percentage on Saturday.
Amanda Konetchy (S, 5’7”, Sr., Victoria, Minn. / Chaska HS) kept the Golden Bear offense running on all cylinders this week with the team hitting .362 in their three matches.  She picked up 137 assists (13.70 per game) to up her nation leading season average to 13.14 per set.  Konetchy contributed in other ways as well by picking up a team best five aces on the week and also added 23 digs.  On Friday she put up a double-double with 64 assists and 10 digs.
Concordia (22-1, 14-0 NSIC) increased their lead in the NSIC to two games after their sixth consecutive sweep of a week in conference play.  The Golden Bears haven’t lost since September 7th (20 matches) and haven’t lost in their last 28 NSIC regular season games.  CU began their week with a 25-15, 17, 17 sweep of Minnesota State in Mankato and held the Mavericks to just .080 hitting as a team.  They followed it up with a hard fought four set win against Minot State on Friday and a quick sweep of the Mary Marauders on Saturday.

A nail-biting first set loss to Minnesota State doomed the University of Mary on Friday as it fell 3-1 on Friday night. On Saturday U-Mary was swept by #1 Concordia-St. Paul. Against Minnesota State a back and forth first set, U-Mary dropped the opener 29-27 as they went on to fall in four sets. Alexis Jacobs  (OH, 5-11, R-Fr., Bismarck, N.D. / Century HS) finished with a game-high 17 kills and added team-high 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Lauren Boldt (OH, 5-10, Jr., Red Wing, Minn. / Red Wing HS) also had a strong performance finishing with 12 kills.  The Marauders offense was paced by Janell Finkbeiner’s (S, 5-8, Fr., Ramsey, Minn. / Elk River HS) 35 assists. On Saturday U-Mary knew it would have its hands full when No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul came to town. The Golden Bears offensive proficiency was evident as the Marauders attempted their fewest attacks and recorded their fewest digs of the season. Boldt made the most of the teams limited attempts converting eight kills on just 17 attempts for a .294 hitting percentage.

Brittany Looker (Jr., OH, Rochester, Minn.) - Looker had a huge week for the Golden Eagles as UMC went 2-1 and positioned themselves in a tie for seventh place. The Golden Eagles had a 3-0 win against Sioux Falls and 3-1 win over Bemidji State. Looker averaged 4.36 kills per set on the weekend. She had 15 kills in a 3-1 loss to No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State. Friday in the 3-0 domination of the Cougars, Looker had 18 kills to lead the way for the Golden Eagles while hitting .237 for the match. In Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Bemidji State, Looker had a double-double of 15 kills and 11 digs. Looker ends the weekend averaging 3.79 kills per set.

No. 4 UMD appeared to take personal offense to a defeat two weekends ago as they unleashed a hard-hitting offense on St. Cloud State in a sweep on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs followed that up by downing No. 17 Wayne State in a defensive five-set affair. UMD’s third match of the week was another offensive showing as the Bulldogs swept Augustana with three players hitting double-digit kills. Junior outside hitter Katie Ledwell had a career weekend with 26 kills and 36 digs in UMD’s two matches.
Senior outside hitter Kate Lange broke UMD’s career kills record last week, surpassing Vicky Braegelman’s (‘07) 1,843 and now standing at 1,857 for her illustrious career. Lange had her strongest showing of the week with 29 kills against No. 17 Wayne State, earning the mark with her first kill of the fifth set. She finished the week with 62 kills, 38 digs, 3 solo blocks, and a .297 kill percentage.

The Minnesota State volleyball team split this past weekend as it downed the University of Mary, 3-1 before falling to Minot State in three sets falling to 9-12 overall with a 5-9 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Mavericks were led by freshman Sydney Geisness (St. Croix Falls, Wis.) who recorded 22 kills, while hitting .417.
The Maverick offense was paced by freshman Sydney Geisness (St. Croix Falls, Wis.), who recorded 14 kills in 21 attempts in the Mavericks 3-1 win over the University of Mary. In the weekend’s opening match the freshman outside hitting posted a .476 attacking percentage. Geisness followed that performance up with an eight kill effort at Minot state. On the weekend she recorded 22 kills (3.14 per set), while hitting .417.
Ellie Van De Steeg (S, So., Hutchinson, Minn.) recorded 88 assists in seven sets (12.57 per set) as the Mavericks split this past weekend, downing the University of Mary 3-1 before falling to Minot State 3-0. Van De Steeg also tallied five kills, 13 digs and four blocks.

Brianna Atkins (OH, 5-10, Fr., Rochester, Minn./ John Marshall HS) had a strong week from her right-side hitting spot for MSUM in helping the Dragons to a 2-1 week. Atkins finished the week with 25 kills in three matches, averaging 2.78 kills per set. She hit a stellar .477 for the week with only four errors in 44 attack attempts. She had nine kills and hit .667 in a sweep of Upper Iowa on Friday. She also added six digs and five block assists on the week.
Sam Sullivan (S, 5-11, Jr., Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury HS) as part of MSUM’s two-setter attack, finished the week with 49 set assists to help the Dragons to a 2-1 week. She averaged 5.44 assists per set. She had 17 assists each in wins over Upper Iowa and Winona State on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Sullivan also had 18 digs on the week. She leads MSUM with 506 set assists on the season.
Amber Krenske (L/DS, 5-7, So., Faribault, Minn. / Faribault HS) back row defense helped the Dragons to a 2-1 week. She averaged 4.67 digs per set for the week, including 5.92 in a sweep of Winona State on Saturday. Krenske had 42 digs for the week had had double-digit digs in all three matches.  Krenske leads MSUM with 270 digs and a 5.09 digs per set average.

#4 Jen Dixon (OH, 5-9, Jr., Brandon, Manitoba / Vincent Massey HS) had another solid week, pacing Minot State University with 41 kills to help the Beavers to a 2-1 week in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. She hit for 14 kills apiece as Minot State took a set from No. 1 ranked Concordia-St. Paul Friday in a 3-1 loss and a 3-0 sweep of Minnesota State. On Tuesday, she paced the Beavers with 11 kills in a 3-0 road sweep of rival University of Mary. Dixon averaged 4.10 kills per set and hit .284 overall. She also had six service aces and two assists. On defense, Dixon finished with 31 digs and three block assists.
#2 Emily Byrne (S, 5-7, Jr., Reno, Nev., Damonte Ranch HS) edged closer to 3,000 career assists as she finished with 117 to help Minot State University go 2-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on the week. She has 2,869 in two and a half seasons running the Beavers’ offense. Byrne dished out 44 assists in each of MISU’s home matches, a 3-1 loss to No. 1 ranked Concordia St. Paul and a 3-0 win over Minnesota State. For the week, she averaged 11.7 assists per set, had three service aces, two block assists, two kills and 24 digs.
Minot State went 2-1 on the week and taking three of their past four NSIC matches. The team’s only blemish in the past four was a 3-1 loss against No. 1 ranked Concordia-St. Paul, the first set the Beavers have won against a ranked NSIC opponent in the two season’s since becoming a member of the league. Minot State swept the University of Mary on the road Tuesday and Minnesota State at home Saturday. #4 Jen Dixon (OH, 5-9, Jr., Brandon, Manitoba / Vincent Massey High School) had another solid week, pacing MISU with 41 kills, while #2 Emily Byrne (S, 5-7, Jr., Reno, Nev., Damonte Ranch High School) dished out 44 assists. #14 Mallory Sall (OH, 6-0, So., Port Coquitlam, British Columbia / Riverside Secondary) added 32 kills, including 14 against the Golden Bears. Libero #5 Ashley Heavenor (L, 5-6, So., Cochrane, Alberta / Winston Churchill High School) was the Beavers’ defensive leader with 36 digs on the weekend, finishing with 15 both Friday and Saturday nights. Minot State plays another three-match week as the Beavers play host to Mayville State Wednesday in nonconference play and start a four-match road trip with Upper Iowa Friday and Winona State Saturday.

Kelsey Chambers (OH, So., Jordan, Minn., Jordan HS) led the Wolves with 52 kills during the week, averaging 5.8 kills per set and hit .369 as the No. 25 Wolves recorded three sweeps during the week. Chambers tied a career-high with 23 kills and hit .595 in NSU’s sweep over Upper Iowa Saturday. Chambers also recorded 23 digs and four blocks in the three matches.
Drew Smith (So., Ames, Iowa, Ames HS) tallied 110 total assists in Northern’s three sweeps (12.2 aps). Smith also totaled 27 digs throughout the week and picked-up her sixth double-double of the season against Winona State with her 35 assist, 15 dig performance. Smith’s 15 digs set a new career-high for her.
Sami Nygaard (L, Sr., Milbank, S.D., Milbank HS) had a huge week for NSU as she averaged over five digs per set as she totaled 46 digs for the week. Nygaard also had 11 assists in the three matches and tied a career-high twice with five assists in the matches against WSU and UIU. Nygaard also had a pair of aces and didn’t have a single service error on 41 serving attempts.

The University of Sioux Falls went 2-1 last week to enter the final stretch of the regular season in ninth place in the NSIC and one game back of Minnesota Crookston. The week couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for the Cougars, as they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to pull off the biggest win in program history, stunning the sixth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on their home court Tuesday night in Marshall, Minn. Set scores were 15-25, 19-25, 27-25, 25-16 and 15-13. It was the Cougars’ first-ever win against a NCAA Division II-ranked opponent and their first victory over a ranked foe of any sort since 2003 (Dordt College). The Mustangs had not lost at home since Nov. 10, 2012.
The Cougars followed up the biggest win in program history with a disappointing loss, falling to Minnesota Crookston (25-17, 25-21, 25-21).
USF bounced back with authority on Saturday, racing to a 10-5 lead in the opening set and cruising to a 3-0 home win against Bemidji State, (25-17, 25-13 and 25-10). Emily Johnson tallied 10 kills on 16 swings with just two errors (.500), while freshman Jordan Calef chipped in with seven terminations. The Cougars step out of the league loop on Tuesday for a match at Dakota State (8-23) and return to NSIC action this weekend at Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State.

 Abbey Thissen (RS, 6-0, So., Clara City, Minn. / MACCRAY) led No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State to a 2-1 record this week with wins over Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Thissen finished the week with 44 kills on 85 attacks – good for a .388 hitting percentage and 3.67 kills per set. Thissen also collected six block assists. Thissen stands firm in the NSIC’s top 10 in kills per set (3.69) and points per set (4.07).
Rachel Westby (L, 5-7, Sr., Marshall, Minn. / Marshall) proved to be one of the most versatile player in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as on Tuesday the Marshall native forfeited her libero jersey to become the setter as SMSU lost regular setter Emilee Gutzmer to injury. Westby filled in remarkably as she racked up a SMSU season-high 62 assists. In her four year career at SMSU, Westby has played and started at every position except for middle blocker.  Gutzmer returned to the lineup for the Mustangs on Friday and Saturday and Westby returned to libero to record 30 digs. Westby finished the weekend with 69 set assists and a 2.50 dig per set average.
Emilee Gutzmer (S, 5-8, So., Jordan, Minn. / Jordan) missed Tuesday’s match versus Sioux Falls with an injury but returned to the lineup on Friday and Saturday to lead No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State to two match victories over Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Gutzmer finished the two matches with 83 assists for an average of 11.86 assists per set. In the procees, Gutzmer tallied nine digs. Gutzmer now owns an 11.89 assist per set this season which ranks her fourth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and fifth in the NCAA.

The St. Cloud State University volleyball team traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to take on Augustana College this Friday evening in NSIC volleyball action. The Huskies fell to the Vikings 1-3 with set scores of 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, and 15-25. Dani Domeier (Norwood Young America) led all players for St. Cloud State with 13 kills and nine digs. The Huskies couldn’t contend with Augustana’s consistent offense as the Vikings finished the match with a .315 attack average compared to the Huskies’ .142%. On Saturday, the Huskies took on #17 Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. The Huskies started out strong, defeating the Wildcats 25-21 in first set action. St. Cloud State kept the pressure on in the second set before ultimately falling 23-25 in set two, followed by 20-25 and 14-25 in consecutive sets. Ellie Dietzen (Black Creek, Wis.) led all players with 14 kills and a .500 attack percentage. Dietzen also collected six digs and four blocks. Kaitlin Doughty (Tomahawk, Wis.) finished with 13 kills for the Huskies and a .357 attack percentage. Dani Domeier (Norwood Young America) collected 10 digs and 10 kills for her seventh double-double of the season. Erin Ohlemann (Golden Valley) dished out 43 assists and had 13 digs for another Husky double-double. Brianne Stamer (Hutchinson) had a team-high 23 digs. St. Cloud State falls to 12-10 overall and 6-8 in NSIC action.

The Peacock volleyball team saw their current losing skid hit ten this week after three losses on the road in the Northern Sun.  Upper Iowa lost 3-1 to Winona State on Tuesday, before dropping straight set matches to MSU Moorhead on Friday and #25 Northern State on Saturday.  The team registered 102 kills on the week with a hitting percentage of .125 as the offense struggled to except for set #3.  UIU’s lone set win came in set three at Winona and the Peacocks forced extra play in the third set of each of their weekend matches before falling by two points in each.  Jennifer Mundt (30) and Chelsea Berry (24) led the team in kills, while Hailey Brown recorded 51 assists and 17 kills.  Amanda Weiss registered 43 digs on the back line and Miranda LeJeune tallied a team-high 7 blocks.  Upper Iowa will play at Minnesota State University, Mankato in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 29, before returning to Fayette for a pair of NSIC matches with Minot State University and the University of Mary this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2.

Alyssa Frauendorfer, a 6-0 freshman middle hitter from Humphrey, Neb. (Humphrey HS), had back-to-back career-high kills over the weekend in matches against #4 Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.  In three matches during the week against Augustana, UMD and SCSU, Frauendorfer averaged 3.92 kills and 1.08 blocks per game for the #17 Wildcats.  After posting nine kills and three blocks in a 3-0 sweep at Augustana Tuesday, Frauendorfer had 18 kills and five blocks with a .421 attack percentage against UMD Friday night and had a career-high 20 kills with five blocks and a sizzling .515 attack percentage in a 3-1 win over St. Cloud State.  For the week, Frauendorfer hit .435 with 47 kills and just seven attack errors in 92 total attacks.
Sophomore setter Leisa McClintock, a 5-7 sophomore from Sioux City, Iowa (Heelan HS), averaged 12.00 assists and 2.00 digs per game in three Wildcat matches during the week.  She had a week-high 56 assists in a 3-2 loss Friday night to #4 Minnesota Duluth and added 53 assists with nine digs in Saturday’s 3-1 win over St. Cloud State.
Sophomore libero Courtney VanGroningen averaged a team-best 5.25 digs per game in three WSC matches during the week.  She tied a season-high with 29 digs Friday vs. Minnesota Duluth and added 19 digs in Saturday’s 3-1 win over St. Cloud State.

Bekah Saugen, OH, Sr., 5-10, Chaska, Minn. (Chaska) recorded double-doubles in all three Warrior games this week, posting 39 total kills and 51 digs on the week. Saugen averaged 3.90 kills per set and 5.10 digs for the Warriors. The senior began the week with 17 kills and 24 digs in a win over Upper Iowa, hitting .325 on the match. She was good for 12 kills and 17 digs at Northern State and added ten kills and ten digs at MSU Moorhead to finish the week. Saugen also posted three aces, an assist and a block for the Warriors.
Katie Froehle, OH, Sr., 5-10, Eden Prairie, Minn. (Eden Prairie) recorded 43 total digs, averaging 4.78 per set in three matches for the Warriors this week. Froehle posted a pair of double-doubles, with 13 kills and 18 digs against Upper Iowa and 13 kills and 19 digs at MSU Moorhead. The senior added 35 kills and a .159 hitting percentage to the Warrior offense this week. Froehle also passed out a pair of assists and had five blocks in the team’s three game.
Elena Kruesel, S, Sr., 5-9, Grafton, Wis. (Dominican) led the Winona State offense with 68 assists in three matches this week, averaging 7.56 assists per set. Kruesel began the week with 24 assists against Upper Iowa and followed with 25 at Northern State. She finished her strong week with 19 assists at MSU Moorhead. The senior also had a double-double against Upper Iowa, collecting 12 digs in the contest. She had 20 total digs on the week and also recorded an ace.
