1. Tell us how you first got involved in your sport?
I first got involved with basketball when I was eight. My father was the one who started teaching me how to play and coaching when I was playing for various youth teams when I was growing up. Ever since then I haven’t stopped.

2. How did you end up deciding to attend your university and participate in athletics?
I always knew that I wanted to play college basketball since I was in about eighth grade. I made it a goal for myself and was something I was and still am very proud of. I visited UMD when I was a senior in high school in October. I was familiar with the campus because my father played basketball and football at UMD as well, and my brother played football for a season too. I have an uncle who lives in Duluth, so I was very aware at how great a city Duluth really is. I really liked the town, the coaches and players. I just felt comfortable and am very happy with my decision.

3. What have you learned from being a student-athlete?
I learned many things from being a student athlete. The biggest and first lesson I learned as a freshmen was time management and how to prioritize what you need to get done. This really helped me balance school and basketball. The other thing I learned is the value of hard work. Your results will show off of your preparation.

4. What are your plans following graduation?
My plans after graduation are to go into coaching basketball hopefully at the college level. I would like to try and attain a graduate assistant coaching spot.

5. What is it like competing in the NSIC?
Competing in the NSIC is great. Big crowds, great gyms and arenas, and it is a high level of basketball. The conference is so tough every year, and every game you have to come to play, because the conference is that good.

6. Where is your favorite place to travel/play in the NSIC? (Besides your home arena) What makes it your favorite?
For me my favorite place to travel and play would be Concordia St. Paul. The main reason is that it is not too far away from Minneapolis, where I am from and a good amount of my friends and family can come to watch our team play. I also like playing in that gym because in high school that is where we would play our section games, and We were able to win two section championships in that gym.

7. What is your favorite memory so far in your collegiate career?
My favorite college memory would be my freshmen year beating Winona State at home when they were ranked #5 in the country. It was a great atmosphere to play in and it was one of the most memorable games so far of my career.

8. Who has influenced you most in your life and how?
My parents have influenced me such a great amount in my life; I really can’t thank them enough. I am fortunate enough to have two parent’s who have made so many sacrifices for me and have supported me through my athletic career and in my life. They really have had a positive influence in my life by always being there for me.

Any additional information you would like to add, unique stories or situations, etc. Something people don’t know about you that you would like to share.
Some things people probably don’t know about me are that I love candy and that I love Air Jordan Basketball Shoes.

NSIC Female Student-Athlete

University: Minnesota Crookston
Year: Junior
Hometown: Stillwater, Minn.
High School: Stillwater Area High School
Sport(s): Volleyball; Golf
Major(s): Health Science

1. Tell us how you first got involved in your sport?
I grew up going to my older sister’s club volleyball tournaments, and I knew that was something I wanted to do. My dad always took my sisters and me to the driving range to hit golf balls. I hated it at the time, but I’m glad my dad made me because I really enjoy the sport now.

2. How did you end up deciding to attend your university and participate in athletics?
Coach Anderson was my team coach at the U of M varsity tournament, and said I should come for a visit. I really liked the small school environment.

3. What have you learned from being a student-athlete?
I have learned how to manage and prioritize my time.

4. What are your plans following graduation?
I plan to attend physical therapy graduate school.

5. What is it like competing in the NSIC?
It’s fierce competing in the NSIC. All the teams are really tough, and that is what makes it such a good conference.

6. Where is your favorite place to travel/play in the NSIC? (Besides your home arena) What makes it your favorite?
I love playing at Concordia St. Paul. It’s the closest to my hometown, so I always have a huge personal fan section.

7. What is your favorite memory so far in your collegiate career?
My favorite memory so far was breaking the NCAA DII record for the longest game vs. Augustana earlier this season. And then continuing on to win the match.

8. Who has influenced you most in your life and how?
My dad has influenced my life the most. He always is setting a good example for me. He is the type of person I strive to be. In sports he always pushes me to be better. I love competing with him.

Any additional information you would like to add, unique stories or situations, etc. Something people don’t know about you that you would like to share.
I love being a two sport division two athlete in the NSIC. I have the opportunity to compete in two sports that I love. When people ask me which I like better I can’t choose because golf and volleyball are totally different. I love the team aspect of volleyball, but I love the individual competitiveness of golf. Either way, I have made friends, from my teams and other teams, what will last a life time.
