DeRoo, Kne Lead Warriors To 5-1 NSIC Tournament Victory

WINONA, Minn. – Jennifer DeRoo scored twice and Alaina Kne handed out four assists as the No. 19 Winona State soccer team posted a 5-1 victory over Augustana in the opening round of the NSIC/US Bank Tournament Wednesday in Winona.

Kne had a hand in four of the team's five goals, including the first three scores by the Warriors. DeRoo scored twice in a 14 minute span of the opening half as the Warriors erased an early 1-0 deficit with five unanswered goals.

The victory moves the Warriors (15-2-2 overall) into the conference tournament's semifinal, which will be played Friday at 11 am in Mankato, Minn. The Warriors will take on the winner of tonight's matchup between Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth.

Augustana scored just 2:30 into the game, but Winona State took over from there, scoring four goals in the opening 45 minutes. DeRoo took a pass on the right side of the box from Kne in the 20th minute and scored to get the Warriors on the board and tie the score are one.

The Warriors added two more goals within three minutes, with Shuana Rodman scoring at the 32:13 mark and DeRoo posting her second goal of the evening with 34:36 off the clock. Kne had an assist on both plays, giving her assists on WSU's first three goals of the contest.

Winona State added a final goal of the opening period with one second remaining before the break. Taylor Zehren took a pass from Morgan LeFebvre after a corner kick from Meg Riebau, finding the back of the net for a 4-1 halftime lead. The assist was Riebau's second of the evening.

WSU added an insurance goal in the second half, with Kati Baker heading in a pass from Kne in the 54th minute.

Winona State took 18 shots on the night, with 12 of the shots going on goal. Baker, DeRoo and Shauna Rodman led the Warriors with three shots with DeRoo putting all three of her shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Alexandra Vial made four saves while recording the win. Winona State has now won 13 consecutive games, tied for the second longest streak in school history.
