The University of Minnesota Duluth served a taste of revenge to Bemidji State University as the Bulldogs advanced to the semifinal round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/US Bank Tournament with a 2-0 win over the Beavers at Malosky Stadium Wednesday evening.

UMD (14-4-0) out-shot Bemidji (12-7-0) 54 to 19 in the teams' two meetings over the past week, managing only a split, but the Bulldogs escaped with the more important victory as they moved on to the next round of the NSIC postseason against No. 19 Winona State. The Warriors have not lost since falling to UMD 2-1 on Sept. 22 earlier this season.

Senior forward Dani Potter netted her 11th of the season just 22 seconds before halftime, a header courtesy of a Kelli Klun throw-in and a Maureen Stormont touch, to finally give UMD a lead after it had dominated the first half, out-shooting the Beavers 24-2.

BSU came out of the break strong, challenging sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Rosa with shots early, but she and the Bulldog defense held off the Beaver attack for her fifth shutout of the season. Junior midfielder Jennifer Smith iced the match in the 68th minute, drilling her fourth of the year, from Stormont and freshman midfielder Marissa Ganske. UMD finished the match outshooting Bemidji 26-11, but the Beavers had seven shots to the Bulldogs' two in the second half. Rosa finished with four saves in the match while BSU 'keeper Sonja Barr had eight.

UMD's semifinal match with Winona State is set to kick off at 11:00 a.m. on Friday afternoon in Minn. at top-seeded Minnesota State University Mankato. The second match-up will pit the host Mavericks and fourth-seed Upper Iowa University. The winners will meet on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Mankato.
