NSIC Player of the Year
#44 Clayton Vette (C, 6-9, Sr., Waverly, Iowa / Shell Rock-Waverly  HS)
Winona State University


Clayton Vette has been a dominant force for Winona State this season, averaging 20.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as the Warriors hold a 24-7 overall record. Vette has been even better during conference play, leading the league in scoring with  21.1 points per game while shooting 59 percent from the floor. He has reached 20 points or more during 13 of his 22 NSIC games while scoring a career high 31 points against Minnesota Duluth and Wayne State. He also has six double-doubles in conference action and nine total on the season. The senior is also seventh on the all-time scoring list at Winona State, netting 1,676 points during his career.


NSIC Defensive Player  & Newcome of the Year
#14 Jarvis Williams (G, 6-6, Sr.,  Milwaukee, Wis. / Bradley Tech HS)
Minnesota State University, Mankato


A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Williams  is currently MSU’s leading scorer, averaging 13.9 points per game. The owner of three double doubles, Williams has led the Mavericks in scoring in 12 games this season and has posted at least 10 points in 19 games this season, including seven games where he tallied at least 21 points. He is also averaging 5.5 rebounds per game and is shooting 50.0 percent from the field. Against Southwest Minnesota State (12/14), Williams tallied a career-high 27 points to go along with nine rebounds in MSU’s 85-84 win over the Mustangs. Recently, Williams tallied 25 points against SMSU (2/23) while shooting 10-of-15 (.667) from the field. Williams tallied 17 steals on the season to go along with three blocks, while bringing down 153 total rebounds, including 96 defensive rebounds. *The NSIC Newcomer of the Year may be any student-athlete competing in his first season of varsity competition at an NSIC institution as a So., Jr. or Sr.


NSIC Freshman of the Year
#34 Daniel Jansen (C, 6-9, Fr.,  Orange City, Iowa / MOC-Floyd Valley HS)
Augustana College


Daniel Jansen has scored 11.2 points per game, which is second highest on the team, with a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game in 2012-13. Jansen finished the NSIC season with 11.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per conference game and ranked 12th in the league shooting 52.2 percent from the field. He has scored in double-digits 18 times this season and has a team-high two double-doubles. The freshman posted career-highs with 24 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Northern State on Feb. 9. Jansen has started all 28 games this season and ranks third on the team playing 24.3 minutes per game.  ^NSIC Freshman of the year may be any student-athlete competing in their true freshman or redshirt freshman year at an NSIC institution.

NSIC Coach of the Year
Brad Bigler - Southwest Minnesota State University


SMSU head coach Brad Bigler was voted by his peers as the 2012-13 NSIC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year. Bigler led the Mustangs to a 16-14 overall record, including a 13-9 mark in NSIC play, tying for seventh place in the 16-team conference. SMSU played one of the toughest schedules in NCAA II and Bigler had SMSU ranked among the top 10 in the first two NCAA region rankings in late February. Bigler has guided SMSU to three winning seasons in his four years as head coach, including two appearances in the NSIC tournament championship game, one NSIC tournament championship and one NCAA tournament appearance.
