He recorded both game-winning hits in the two wins BSU picked up in the 2-2 split with CU. One of his two home runs Friday was a two-run shot that gave BSU the 2-0 lead in the top of the 10th inning and would serve as the only runs of the game. In the series finale, Baumann capped a four-run fourth with a single to left that plated what would be the winning run in the 7-6 victory. On the weekend he added four RBIs, two runs and 12 total bases. He recorded a .800 slugging percentage, .400 on-base percentage, stole a base and totaled 12 assists with five putouts and one error for a .944 fielding percentage. He was credited with a no decision in the 2-0, 10-inning victory against Concordia-St. Paul. The Beavers are scheduled to open home play April 6-7 versus University of Mary.

Concordia-St. Paul
#40 Greg Larpenter (CF, 5-9, 180, Sr., Urbandale, Iowa / Johnston HS) hit .417 (5-12) with a .533 on-base percentage and a .833 slugging percentage to help Concordia to a split with Bemidji State. He’s reached base safely in every game this season (hit, walk or hit by pitch), a streak of 16 games.
#29 Zach Rengel (LHP, 6-2, 190, Fr., Fergus Falls, Minn./HS)
Concordia’s rookie southpaw was dominant against a solid, veteran Bemidji State lineup on Saturday in a 6-1 victory. He struck out a career-high nine with just one walk, allowing three hits over six innings. He allowed one run while holding BSU to a team .143 average to earn his first collegiate win while making his fourth start of the year. In his first four starts, Rengel has a 2.84 ERA over 19.0 innings with 23 strikeouts to just four walks while pitching at least four innings in every start.
Concordia is scheduled for a four game road series at Winona State this Saturday and Sunday … the two teams met earlier this year with Concordia sweeping the Warriors at the Metrodome … Concordia is now 21-28 all-time against WSU and 12-17 on the road at WSU … Concordia has won the last three games in the all-time series, and four of the last five … Concordia head baseball coach Mark “Lunch” McKenzie is now within striking distance of his 300th career win, with a 296-231-1 career record in his 14th season leading the club … after going without a home run in 12 games at the Metrodome, the team slugged three homers over the weekend against BSU.

University of Mary
Kyal Williams suffered a tough 2-1 loss to Mayville State after a 22-day layoff for the Marauders. The senior hurled his second complete game of the season, allowing one earned run, six hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings… U-Mary last week ranked seventh in the BaseballNews.com Central Region Poll and eighth in the NCBWA rating…Weather and field conditions are forcing the Marauders to swap sites twice this week with six games shifting to Bismarck, ND. U-Mary will now host Minnesota State University, Mankato in an NSIC doubleheader on Wednesday, April 6. A four-game weekend series with Bemidji State will be played at Municipal Ballpark on Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7.

Minnesota Crookston
The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team fell in four games to Wayne State College (Neb.) over the weekend to fall to 0-21 (0-8 NSIC). The Golden Eagles got a strong pitching performance from Matt Korte (Jr., P, St. Cloud, Minn.) Friday in a 3-1 loss to Wayne State. Korte went six innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. The Golden Eagles will play mid-week games against St. Cloud State University April 2. The games have been moved to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. UMC is scheduled to play home games April 6 and 7 against Northern State University. It has not yet been decided where those games will be played.

Minnesota Duluth
UMD broke even with Sioux Falls over a four-game stretch to kick off the NSIC season, going 2-2 in a series played in Sioux City, Iowa. The Bulldogs, who had their NSIC-opening series with Augustana erased from the schedule due to snowy conditions last weekend, had not reached the win column prior to Thursday’s win over the Cougars. Freshman Alex Wojciechowski picked up two or more hits in all four outings on the week, finishing 10-for-15 at the plate with five runs scored and a staggering nine RBIs. Seniors Adam Zwak and Jordan Smith recorded their first wins of the year on the mound, with Smith’s complete game victory serving as the driving force behind UMD landing its first win of the season on Thursday. The Bulldogs remain on the road this Saturday and Sunday at Southwest Minnesota State.

Minnesota State
#28 Connor McCallum (INF, 5-11, 175, So., L/R, Shoreview, Minn. / Hill-Murray) had an outstanding weekend at the plate going 9-for-18 (.500) with two homeruns, four runs scored, nine RBIs and 16 total bases as No. 11 Minnesota State split a four-game series with visiting Northern State in Rapid City to move to 17-6 overall. McCallum registered a 1.231 slugging percentage and .733 on-base percentage  while playing error-free in the field and adding a stolen base in the four-game set. The sophomore is 12-for-25 (.600) in his last eight games.
#27 Harvey Martin (RHP, 6-1, 195, Sr., L/R, Farmington, Mich. / Central Michigan) registered a season-high 11 strikeouts and picked up his first complete game of the year while scattering four hits and allowing an unearned run in a 10-1 victory over Northern State last Friday afternoon. Now 3-0 overall, Martin had a 16-inning scoreless streak snapped with an unearned run in the fourth inning but has only surrendered three runs in 33.0 innings this season . The senior has a sparking 0.55 ERA while limiting opposing hitters to a .160 batting average.
No. 11 Minnesota State failed to put together consecutive wins as it split a four-game series with visiting Northern State in Rapid City this past weekend. MSU earned victories by margins of 10-1 and 12-2 but also suffered a pair of two-runs loss, 7-5 and 5-3, to move to 17-6 overall. The Mavericks begin the bulk of their NSIc slate this weekend with six games including two on Wednesday at the University of Mary and a four-game set this weekend with Augustana. Matt Magers is in his fifth season as skipper of the Mavericks and owns a 188-63 (.749) overall record.

Minot State
Minot State University opened up their first ever Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season with two losses to Winona State, 8-2 and 8-6. Two games were canceled due to weather and field scheduling. The two games were played in Sioux Falls, S.D. at Karras Park, home of the Augustana College Vikings. In game one, MISU committed six errors, leading five unearned runs and a loss for freshman Jesse Goertzen (P, Steinbach, Manitoba). A.J. Begay (Jr. 3B, Salt Lake City, Utah) drove in both Beaver runs with a seventh inning single. In game two, Minot State made three more errors, continuing the suspect defensive performance. However, the bats were hot as MISU pounded WSU for nine hits. Mike Turcotte (Sr., CF, Victoria, British Columbia), Mitch Olson (Sr., 1B, Deloraine, Manitoba) and Connor Moughtin (Jr., C, Victoria, British Columbia) each had two hits in the loss. The Beavers will now get set for a weekend series with No. 9 St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn. on April 6 and 7.

Northern State
Maurice Rodriguez (C, 6-1, 215, So., R/R, Canyon Lake, Calif./Canyon Lake HS/Riverside CC) went 4-for-12 with four runs scored and four RBIs in NSU’s four-game split with No. 11 Minnesota State last weekend.  The sophomore had a breakout game in NSU’s 7-5 win over the Mavericks on Friday, going 3-for-4 from the plate with a home run and three runs driven in to power the Wolves past MSU for the first time in 12 all-time tries.
Nathan Nietfeld (P, 6-4, 190, Sr., R/R, Paynesville, Minn./Paynesville Area HS/Ridgewater CC) allowed just five hits in five innings of work to power the Wolves to their first ever win over 11th-ranked Minnesota State on Friday afternoon.  The senior right-hander picked up his first win of the season in the outing, allowing one earned run and one walk while striking out two in the start.  Of the five hits allowed, only one went for extra bases, as NSU claimed a 7-5 win in Game 2 of the NSIC-opening doubleheader on Friday.
NSU’s wins over Minnesota State are the first in school history.  In 14 all-time meetings, including the four-game series last weekend, NSU is now 2-12 against the Mavericks.

Sioux Falls
The Cougars went 3-2 last week to improve to 7-15 overall (2-6, NSIC). Trevor Crow went 5-for-6 and drove in a career-high two runs as Sioux Falls defeated Briar Cliff 13-5 in a Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference tilt at West High School in Sioux City, Iowa. All of Crow’s hits were singles and the former Brandon Valley star did not post a strikeout. The Cougars had 18 hits in the contest—the most a USF team has recorded in almost three full seasons. USF then earned a four-game split vs. the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Thursday and Good Friday. The four games were played at Sioux City West High School in Sioux City, Iowa, due to unplayable conditions at Harmodon Park in Sioux Falls. On Thursday, the Cougars dropped an 8-4 game early in the day before earning a 6-5 extra innings decision in game two. In the opener, the Cougars never recovered from a first inning in which they committed a costly infield error and allowed four runs. But USF notched its sixth win of the season in dramatic fashion, blowing a late lead only to rally from a run down for a 6-5 walk-off victory on Thursday night. Derek Fischer served as the unlikeliest of heroes for USF. The game one starting pitcher was the Cougars’ pinch hitter with two outs in the eleventh and supplied the game-winning base hit to left field. The walk-off hit preserved a terrific outing by junior righthander Henry Ojeda who scattered two runs on seven hits with six K’s to just one walk in eight innings of work. The Cougars racked up 13 hits in game two and shortstop Corey Vasquez led the Cougars with a 4-for-6, two RBI effort. Sioux Falls also split a Good Friday doubleheader vs. University of Minnesota-Duluth (2-15, 2-3 NSIC). In game one, three errors proved more important than out-hitting Minnesota-Duluth, 11-10, as the Bulldogs topped USF, 7-6. The Cougars bounced back to mercy the visitors in game two, 17-7. Freshman Kelbe Beste had a monster day for the Cougars on Friday. He ended the day 4-for-6 with two RBI and three runs scored. Vasquez is currently batting .400 to rank seventh in the NSIC and he continues to pace the Cougars at the plate. Vasquez finished 11-for-20 this past lweek with three RBI and six runs scored. Crow went 9-for-20 in the five games with five RBI and three runs scored. USF will make the short trip to Augustana College on Wednesday.

SMSU
Senior first baseman Brian Ness (Rochester, Minn.) batted .533 (8 for 15) in four games last week with one home run, three RBIs and 11 total bases.  He finished with a .733 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage.  During Saturday’s  doubleheader split with Augustana, Ness went 6 for 8 in the two games with a home run and three RBIs, including hitting a two-run, two-out, go-ahead homer in the sixth inning in SMSU’s 8-6 victory.
Senior pitcher Corby McLauglin (Sioux City, Iowa) picked up his first save of the season on Saturday in SMSU’s 8-6 win over Augustana, tossing 3.2 shutout innings, allowing four hits with three strikeouts and no walks.  The save secured a victory for his young brother, Travis, who tossed the first 5.1 innings to pick up his second career victory.

St. Cloud State
The nationally ranked St. Cloud State baseball team (15-2) was idle last week as the scheduled games against Upper Iowa were cancelled due to the weather and field conditions.  SCSU will resume its schedule on April 2 with a doubleheader against Minnesota Crookston at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.  The action will begin at 6:30 a.m.

Upper Iowa
The Peacocks’ (7-6, 0-0 NSIC) string of cancelled games due to the late winter weather in the Midwest has now escalated to ten games after Friday and Saturday’s double headers with St. Cloud State were stricken from the schedule due to field conditions.
Upper Iowa was slated to face off with the Marauders of the University of Mary in a four-game set to christen the 2013 NSIC season last weekend and were to take the diamond again this past Wednesday in a non-conference double dip with Lewis University.  All four games against St. Cloud State that were scheduled for Friday and Saturday this weekend have been cancelled.  None of the games will be made up.
Now the Peacocks will set their sights on next week.  UIU will be at home on Wednesday, Apr. 3, against the Wolves of Northern State University at noon and then head to Kearney, Neb. for a weekend series against the Lopers of the University of Nebraksa-Kearney on Apr. 6-7.

Wayne State
Blake Brisson, a 5-7 160 pound senior outfielder from Elkhorn, Nebraska (Emporia State), extending his hitting streak to 13 games by going 6 for 13 at the plate (.462) with a double, triple, six stolen bases, three RBI’s and three runs scored while helping Wayne State sweep a four-game series over Minnesota, Crookston.  He had two multi-hit games, going 2 for 3 with a double and two stolen bases in a 9-0 win in Friday’s opener and finished the weekend going 2 for 4 with a run scored and three stolen bases in another 9-0 win to close out the series Saturday afternoon.  For the season, Brisson leads the Wildcats in hits with 23 and has a .390 average while going a perfect 10 for 10 in stolen bases.
Tadd Johansen, a 6-4 180 pound senior left hander from Elkhorn, Nebraska (Elkhorn HS), fired a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a 9-0 win over Minnesota Crookston Friday at Overin Field in Wayne.  It was his second complete game and second shutout of the season, improving his record to 5-0 with a 0.76 ERA this season.  Johansen has won all five of his starts this season while making one relief appearance.  In 35.1 innings pitched this season, he has allowed just 24 hits and four runs (three earned) with 36 strikeouts and seven walks.

Winona State
Seth McMullen, SS, Sr., Wausau, Wis. (West) accounted for eight of Winona State’s 16 runs in its doubleheader sweep of Minot State, scoring five runs while driving in three more. The senior also hit .625 against Minot State, going 5-for-8 at the plate. McMullen began the doubleheader by going 3-of-4 at the plate with a trio of run-scoring singles. He also scored two runs on the game. He followed with a 2-for-4 performance with three runs scored in game two. He also drew a walk, recording a .667 on base percentage in the doubleheader.
Mike Wasilik, P, Jr., Oak Creek, Wis. (St. Thomas More) tossed a complete game to earn the victory in the opener of the Warriors’ doubleheader against Minot State. Wasilik scattered five hits while allowing two runs in the win. He also struck out four batters while walking just one.
