MINNETONKA, Minn. – Augustana secured a spot in the NSIC Tournament Championship for the fourth consecutive year by beating Minnesota State 5-0. The Vikings swept the doubles matches before Katie Jesperson and Hannah Gebauer won their singles matches in straight sets to put away the Mavericks.
Jesperson and Michelle Wadas comprised the No. 1 doubles team and defeated their MSU counterparts 8-2. Gebauer paired with Jessa Richards and handed their No. 2 doubles opponents an 8-0 loss, the fifth time they’ve shut out their opponents this season.
Heather Sullivan and Jenna Helleberg were challenged at the No. 3 doubles match, but emerged victorious 8-6 to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead entering the singles matches.
Jesperson and Gebauer were the first two Augustana singles players to finish their matches and won handily to give the Vikings their fourth and fifth individual match wins. Jesperson beat Brandi Dohmen 6-0, 6-1 and Gebauer took her No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-1.
Wadas won her first set 7-5 and Liz Lewis was up 1-0 before the match was called final.
