BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- Minnesota State earned the 2012-13 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) / U.S. Bank All-Sports Award. The Mavericks amassed 190 points, 26 points ahead of second place and last year’s winners from Augustana College. This marks the third time that Minnesota State has earned the all-sports award (2008-09 & 2009-10) as it joins Augustana, Winona State and Minnesota Duluth as the only other schools to win the award in its 14-year history. The Mavericks will be presented their award on Wednesday, July 10 at the NSIC Hall of Fame Banquet in St. Cloud, Minn.
Minnesota State won six regular season titles during the 2012-13 season, including football, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, men’s indoor track & field, men’s outdoor track & field and tied for the softball title.
Augustana had another solid year as well, scoring 164 points to finish second after winning four regular season titles. The Vikings took home the women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country and women’s tennis titles this past year.
Winona State finished in third place with 148 points while St. Cloud State was fourth with 142.5 points. Minnesota Duluth was fifth with 115.33 and league newcomer Sioux Falls was sixth with106 points.
The winner of each title in a conference-sponsored championship receives points totaling the number of teams in that sport plus one. The next place finisher receives points totaling the number of teams less the number of places from first place. Ties in the standings at any level result in the totaling of points and distributed equally. Indoor and outdoor track & field are computed at half the total points as listed in the previous mentioned categories.
