NSIC Offensive  Player of the Week
#9  Drew Bauer (QB, 6-2, 210, So.,  Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Eagan HS)
University of Minnesota Duluth


Bauer threw for a career-high 326 yards and two touchdowns in quarterbacking UMD to a convincing 44-21 road victory over St. Cloud State Saturday. His passing yardage and total offense (408 yard) were both the highest by a Bulldog since the 2007 season finale (All-American Ted Schlafke with 350 and 495 yards, respectively at St. Cloud State).  Bauer completed 20 of 31 passes on the day and his two third-quarter touchdown tosses helped UMD seal its 14th consecutive regular season win.  Bauer also led both teams in rushing with 82 yards on 13 carries and scored UMD’s first touchdown of the afternoon. His 408 yards of total offense were the fifth-highest single-season total in program history while his 326 passing yards ranked 11th. Bauer is now 17-2 as a starter since taking over that role at the start of last season.

NSIC Defensive  Player of the Week
#95 Josh Gordon (DE, 6-2, 250, Jr.,  Milwaukee, Wis. / Wisconsin Lutheran)

Playing in front of a national television audience, Gordon recorded four of Minnesota State’s seven quarterback sacks in a 44-22 win at Winona State.  His four sacks combined for a loss of 18 yards as he now has 12 quarterback sacks on the season, just 1.5 sacks behind Steve Connelly for the most sacks in a season by a Maverick. With its win over Winona State, the Mavericks have now won 28-straight NSIC games and 14-straight road games.

NSIC Special teams Player of the Week
#20 Bradley Hatfield (PK, 5-11, 185, Sr., Manteca, Calif. / Manteca HS)

Hatfield hit three field goals of 26, 34, and 38 yards to help #20 USF turn back Augustana, 23-12 in the Key to the City game on Saturday at Kirkeby-Over Stadium. He also connected on a pair of PATs to record 11 points in the game.  He has made 6-of-6 on field goals this season and is 31-of-33 on PATs to total 51 points.  Hatfield hit field gals at the end of the first half (26 yards), with 10:04 left in the third quarter (34 yards) and a crucial kick from 38-yards with 8:47 to play in the fourth quarter. His final make helped USF built a double digit lead over the Vikings.

- Marked his first collegiate touchdown with a two yard run to put the Beavers up 24-3 over UMC
- Nomane posted seven of the nine carries on his first collegiate touchdown drive to average 3.7 yards a carry
- His second TD came on a five yard run sealing a 38-3 victory in the 4th quarter

The game has been designated as Bemidji State’s homecoming.
With a series dating back to Sept. 4, 1999, BSU leads the all-time series between Minot State 14-1
BSU is 5-0 in the last five meetings between the teams and are 6-1 in the all-time series in Bemidji

- Recovered a MISU fumbled punt later in 4th quarter to set up a UM FG
- The leading punt returner in NSIC and #2 in NCAA DII returned two punts for 30 yards
- Completed his only pass for 51 yards to set up UM 1st touchdown
- Caught five passes for 65 yards and a 2-point conversion
MARAUDERS MEMOS
- With Minot State at the U-Mary five yard line, JR LB Seth Walton sacked the Minot State quarterback and forced a fumble to preserve the Marauders 31-29 win with just 14 seconds left in the game
- R-FR QB Ben Jolliffe ran for two scores and threw for one TD. He ran for 75 yards and passed for 171.
 THIS WEEK at UMC
- The Marauders are 10-2 all-time against the Golden Eagles
- U-Mary defeated UMC 31-15 last season in Myron Schulz’s final game as the Marauders head coach

The University of Minnesota Crookston football team fell to 0-6 on the year as they fell 38-3 to Bemidji State University in the “Hub Cap Game”, The Beavers brought back the Hub Cap after UMC picked up a victory over the Beavers last season.
The Golden Eagles were led defensively by 13 tackles from Greg Lofquist, who continues to be the stand out of the UMC team with his fourth-straight game with double-digit tackles. Lofquist now has 79 tackles on the 2014 season. Offensively, freshman Adam Connette led the way with five catches for 78 yards.

THIS WEEK - vs U-Mary
UMC will take on University of Mary for their homecoming game Oct. 18 in Crookston. The Golden Eagles are 2-0 in their last two homecoming games with a win over Southwest Minnesota State University in 2012 and a win over Bemidji State in 2013.

- Sporting a 14-game regular season winning streak the Bulldogs will return home for a Homecoming clash with NSIC North Division foe Northern State
- The Bulldogs are coming off a convincing 44-21 takedown of St. Cloud State, a game in which UMD trailed 7-0 early only to score 31 of the next 38 points.
- UMD is 21-10-0 lifetime against Northern State and has rolled off five straight home wins at the Wolves expense since falling 16-7 back in 1999.
- Senior running back Austin Sikorski is within 126 yards of taking over the No. 2 spot on UMD’s all-time rushing charts. The 2014 NSIC North Division Preseason Offensive Player of the Year has now rolled up 3,103 yards on 529 lifetime carries. Only three-time All-American Isaac Odim (4,242 yards between 2008-10) and Dave Rufledt (3,228 yards between 2001-04) have more ground yardage in a Bulldog uniform.
- The senior wide out tandem of Zach Zweifel and Aaron Roth have combined for 258 catches for 3,254 yards and 21 touchdowns since hitting the field as true freshmen three years ago. Zweifel needs just 71 more yards to become the fifth Bulldog ever to reach the 2,000-yard receiving mark and seven more catches to move into fifth place on UMD’s lifetime list (he has 142 receptions to date). Roth, who is the lone Bulldog to play in all 45 games over the last four seasons, is currently seventh on that list with 116 catches.
- Logan Lauter’s career 6.8 yards per carry average is second only to Isaac Odim’s 7.2 mark of any Bulldog with over 2,000 rushing yards.
- Since the NSIC instituted Divisional play in 2008, the Bulldogs are a sizzling 38-2 in North Division play and 20-0 at home.Both of those two losses during that stretch came on the road to St. Cloud State.

#37 Bryce Broome (DB, 5-11, 197, So., Port Orchard, Wash. / South Kitsap)
- Broome intercepted two passes - his first two of his career - in the Beavers 31-29 loss against the University of Mary Saturday.
- Broome returned his second interception of the night 29 yards for a touchdown, also the first of his career.
- His first interception of the game was the Beavers first INT of the season.
- Finished with 55 yards in interception return yards and had four tackles.
 - Minot State came excruciatingly close to its first win of the season as the Beavers marched to the Mary 5-yard-line with less than a minute to play, but a fumble finished off MSU.
- The Beavers had a series of firsts on Saturday, including their first interception, first rushing touchdown, first interception return for a score, first lead in the second half and the first time MSU has outgained its opponent in total yards.
- Minot State had its best offensive output of the season,  racking up 411 total yards and a season-high 24 first downs.
- #16 Zac Cunha (QB, 6-3, 234, Jr., Rocklin, Calif. / Roseville) threw for a career high 370 yards passing and finished with two touchdowns.
- #9 Leon La Deaux (WR, 6-3, 200, Sr., Port Orchard, Wash. / South Kitsap / Central Washington) hauled in six passes for 124 yards and two TDs.
- #5 Levi Freidt (LB, 6-4, 209, Sr., Minot, N.D. / Bishop Ryan) had a game-high 16 tackles and finished with two pass breakups.

- Minot State travels to its nickname rival from Minnesota, taking on Bemidji State Saturday.
- The N.D. Beavers have just one win in the series against BSU and have lost both meetings since moving to NCAA Division II.

- had big-play ability all day for the Wolves in their 40-38 win over MSU Moorhead Saturday on the road.
- caught a 64-yard touchdown pass in the win and also scored on a 19-yard reverse that put NSU ahead for good in the game.
- ended the day with seven catches for 97 yards and also had 25 yards rushing on the day.
- 64-yard score came with just seven seconds left in the first half and gave the Wolves a big momentum boost heading to the break.

Devin Olson, 5-10, 215, Wishek, N.D., Wishek HS
- had a big day for NSU in the win over MSUM as he recorded a team-high nine tackles in the contest.
- was also a terror on the Wolves’ pass rush as he recorded a career-best 1.5 sacks in the victory.

 THIS WEEK - at UMD
-    NSU and Minnesota Duluth are both tied atop the Northern Division along with Bemidji State at 2-0 in divisional play.
-    UMD defeated the Wolves 39-7 last season in Aberdeen in the season finale
-    The Bulldogs lead the all-time series against Northern 21-10

- Rushed for 130 yards on 18 carries and passed for 217 yards, hitting 19-of-34 passes with a 30-yard TD pass to Brady Rose to lift #20 USF to a 23-12 win over Augustana in the “Key to the City” game at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
- For the second time this season, Papilion has gone over 100 yards rushing and 200 yards passing in a game. He is the only league quarterback with those numbers.
- The 130 yards rushing is a season-high and the second time in three weeks, Papilion has surpassed 100 yards rushing. In his career, the sophomore QB now has five games of 100 yards rushing or more. He now has 200 yards passing for the fourth time in his career and the third time in six games this year.    
#32 Cameron Ostrom, LB, 6-1, 210, Jr., Buffalo, Wyo. (Buffalo HS)
- Recorded a team-high nine tackles, including his third sack of the season
- Part of a defense that allowed just one TD (rushing) and two field goals against the Vikings, which came in averaging 40.2 ppg and ranked third in the league.  
- Ostrom also had a TFL and now leads USF with 40 tackles, and has five TFLs with three sacks and an interception, which he returned 88 yards for a TD against BSU

 THIS WEEK - vs SMSU
- USF has split six games (3-3) with SMSU, but have won two straight in a series that started in 1968. In that first game, USF took a 13-6 win over SMSU. A year ago, the Cougars won a shootout with SMSU, 55-48, in a game that produced 1,446 yards in total offense. Two years ago, USF captured a 41-22 win. The last win by SMSU was a 24-7 decision in 1979.
- The Cougars recorded a sixth consecutive win last Saturday, defeating Augustana, 23-12, in the “Key to the City” rivalry game. The victory was USF’s sixth straight double digit win and improved their overall point margin to 263-to-75.
- With the win last weekend, the Cougars are 6-0 for the first time in their NCAA DII era. The last time USF opened 6-0 occurred during the 2010 season, which was part of a 13-1 campaign in the school’s final year in NAIA. USF lost a national title tilt to Carroll College, 10-7, to end a 13-game winning streak.
- With a home game on the docket, USF will look to improve on a 48-3 at Bob Young Field after winning Saturday. USF is 3-0 at home this season, sporting a 115-to-23 ppg edge against opponents at Young Field.
- Remarkably, USF has yet to allow a TD in either the first or fourth quarter. The Cougars have a combined 157-to-6 edge in those two quarters, including 70-to-6 (two field goals) in the first quarter and 87-0 in the fourth quarter.

-Caught six passes for a career-high 113 yards and one touchdown in SMSU’s homecoming win over Upper Iowa.
-Huot’s first career 100-yard receiving game.
-Had a 64-yard touchdown reception—longest reception of his career.
-Huot leads SMSU with 25 receptions for 268 yards and three touchdowns.
 
Tyler Flud LB, 6-0, 210, So., St. Paul, Minn. (Cretin-Derham Hall HS)
-Led SMSU with 13 tackles, including six solo stop and forced a key fumble in SMSU’s win.
-Forced fumble at the 2-yard line in the fourth quarter to stop a UIU drive with the Peacocks leading 17-14. SMSU then answered with a 98-yard touchdown drive to take a 21-17 lead.
-The SMSU defense held Chris Smith, the second leading rusher inDivision II, to just 104 yards rushing on 24 carries.
-The SMSU defense finished with three sacks and recorded 10 pass break-ups.

THIS WEEK - at USF
- The Cougars recorded a 55-48 win over SMSU a year ago, where SMSU set a DII record for most total yards in a game by a losing team
- Series that started in 1968 is tied at 3-3
- USF won last season 55-48 in game that had over 1400 of total offense
- SMSU’s last win over USF was a 24-7 win in 1979

Nate Meyer (So., QB, Cold Spring, Minn.) threw for two touchdowns of 39 and 14 yards and finsiehd the game 20 of 30 passing for 202 yards

Grant Thayer (Jr., TE, Appleton, Wis.) caught two passes in the game, both for touchdowns. His first score was on a fake field goal attempt when holder Taylor Berger (Sr., WR, Ramsey, Minn.) rolled out and found Thayer on an 18-yard pass play to pull within one touchdown, 21-14, heading into half time. Thayer later caught a 14-yard pass from Meyer.

St. Cloud State was held to 58 yards on the ground and finished the game with 309 yards of total offense.

Joe Mooney (So., WR, Maple Lake, Minn.) finished the day with a team high 89 receiving yards on three catches. He scored the first touchdown of the game on a 39-yard pass play from Meyer.

Kyle Risinger (Sr., DB, Excelsior, Minn.) and Adam Josephson (So., LB, Minneota, Minn.) each had seven tackles for the Huskies. Risinger’s totals included two tackles for loss.

St. Cloud State is on the road to MSU Moorhead next Saturday. The Huskies are 33-23-2 all-time against the Dragons in a series that began in 1920 and have won six straight since beginning play in the NSIC in 2008.

- Cole Jaeschke surpassed the 10,000-yard mark in his career; now has 10,155 passing yards in his four seasons
- Jaeschke moved into second place on the NSIC Career Total Offense List with 10,484 yards
- Jaeschke need 824 yards of total offense to take over the all-time NSIC lead
- Chris Smith ran for 104 yards and a touchdown; his 16th of the season

Last Week  - vs MSU  - L 44-24
- The Winona State football team had its chances against the nation’s third-ranked team, but fell to the Mavericks 44-24 Thursday night at Warrior Stadium.
- Quarterback Jack Nelson went 23-of-44 for 292 yards and three touchdowns while being sacked six times and throwing one interception.
- Sophomore running back Paul Preston went over 100 yards for the first time in his career, rushing for 101 yards on 17 attempts for a solid 5.9 yards per carry, while wide receiver Josh Mikes finished the day with six catches for 68 yards and a pair of scores.
- Collin Corcoran was the game’s leading tackler, wrapping up 12 Mavericks while also accounting for a sack.  Morgan Weaver and Andrew Spencer each had eight tackles, while Weaver and Tyler Kubler each had a full sack.  As a team, the Warriors had five sacks in the game.  Larry Mbayu and Davonte Willcox-Ransom each picked off passes for WSU.

THIS WEEK - at UIU
Winona State (3-3) travels south to Upper Iowa Saturday for a 6 p.m. showdown with the Peacocks. The Warriors have never lost to UIU, sporting a spotless 10-0 record dating back to the teams’ first meeting in 1968.  Last season, the Peacocks racked up over 600 yards of total offense but WSU used a number of big plays to beat Upper Iowa 49-32 at home.
