#2 Trey Heid (QB, 6-2, 192, So., Lakeville, Minn. / North HS
Augustana College


Heid tied a single game school record with six touchdown passes in a 52-48 win at Wayne State.   Heid finished game 18 of 33 for a career-high 339 yards as he tied an NCAA DII record for touchdown passes in a quarter with five in the second stanza.  He added a career-long 61-yard touchdown pass to Matt Heller as he threw for over 300 yards for the third time in his career.  Heid completed seven passes of 20 or more yards, including completions of 23, 30, 40 and 61 yards.  He capped off the day with the game-winning touchdown pass to Charlie Hayes with 15 second left. 

NSIC Defensive  Player of the Week
#19 Solomon St. Pierre (DB, 5-11, 171, Jr., Wagner, S.D. / Wagner HS)
University of Sioux Falls


St. Pierre recorded seven tackles and snagged three interceptions, returning one 35 yards to pay dirt in a 44-20 win versus Southwest Minnesota State.  St. Pierre recorded his second game this season with three picks as he leads the NSIC with eight.  He is also tied for the lead in all over division II with those eight interceptions.  He also leads the NSIC with 182 return yards on those eight picks.  This marks the second time this season that St. Pierre has been named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week (9/29/14) after he had three picks against MSU Moorhead.

University of Minnesota Duluth


Brees connected on a career-best three field goals in Saturday’s 43-30 win over Northern State.  Brees hit from 25, 27 and a career long 49 yards. He also established a personal-best for points as he added four point after attempts to finish with 13 points in the contest.  UMD has now won 15 straight regular season contests and are 39-2 in the NSIC North Division since 2008.

- This will be the 45th encounter between two schools
- Augie holds the series edge at 23-21.
- The Mavericks have won their last three games against the Vikings, including a 20-10 victory last season.

- Compiled 317 yards of passing going 21-for-42 and tallied three touchdowns in a 31-17 win over Minot State.
- This marks the first game this season he has thrown for over 300 yards and first with three touchdown passes. Both also mark career game highs.
- Shields also tallied 14 carries for 25 yards rushing
- Ranked sixth in the NSIC for passing average per game with 231.6 yards and ninth for total offense of 1,745 yards
#9 Colton Blascyk (LB, 6-0, 222, Jr., Kensington, Minn. (West Central Area HS))
- Led the “Gang Green” defense with seven tackles, including three solo tackles
- Tallied one sack for a loss of eight yards
- Posted two tackles for a loss resulting in -10 yards.
- Tied for 13th in the conference with 57 total tackles
- Tied for 7th in tackles for a loss with 9.5 tackles amongst the league
 #45 Kyle Fodness (K, 5-10, 180, So., Bemidji, Minn. (Minnesota))
- Was 4-for-4 on extra points and was 1-for-2 on field goals attempts
- Fodness nailed a 38-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter to put BSU up 17-3 over Minot State.
- His field goal marked his longest of the season beating a 32-yard field goal earlier this season.
- Tied for seventh in the league for PAT kicking percentage (85.7%)

- Duluth owns the all-time series record against BSU, 42-10
- In the last five meetings, the Beavers are 0-5 against the Bulldogs
- Bemidji State has not defeated UMD in Duluth since Sept. 22, 1951
- The last win BSU recorded against the Bulldogs was Oct. 23, 1999 in Bemidji, 35-26
- In the previous six meetings, Minnesota Duluth has been nationally ranked

For third time in seven weeks, Concordia-St. Paul football was faced with the task of playing a nationally-ranked opponent in hostile territory. The Golden Bears were unable to keep up with #2 Minnesota State with a 38-6 loss at Blakeslee Stadium in a rare Friday night college game.

Ben Schramski, who made his first collegiate start under center, finished completing 13-of-33 for 198 yards. Nine of his 13 completions were good for first downs as Concordia had 17 first downs in the game.
Senior Tre Spears did his best to bruise the MSU defensive front, rushing for 66 yards on 20 attempts.

Concordia’s defense was led by junior Jordan Halverson with 14 tackles, giving him 30 over the last two games, 77 on the year and 267 for his career (7th all time). He added 1.5 tackles for loss and a half sack.
 
THIS WEEK - vs UIU
- Concordia returns home next Saturday, October 25 for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Upper Iowa at Sea Foam Stadium.
-  CU is 7-1 against UIU since 2006
- UIU defeated CU 28-24 in Fayette last season

- Marauders ran for a season-high 229 yards and generated 417 yards
Jacob Parker (CB, 6-1, 190, R-Fr., Las Vegas, Nev. / Arbor View)
- Intercepted a pass and returned it 20 yards to set up the Marauders second touchdown
- Tied for team-high with seven tackles
- Led team with five solo stops
- Has intercepted passes in consecutive games
Brody Riggs (K/P, 6-3, 200, R-Fr., Peoria, Ariz. / Cactus)
- Crushed a 50-yard field goal late in the first half to start a 17 point run for the Marauders
- It was the longest field goal in the Marauders NCAA era (2006 on) and may be an all-time school record
-  Also converted both extra point attempts and was 1-of-2 on field goal attempts
- Averaged 33 yards/punt with a long of 48 yards
- Downed one of his three punts inside the 20 yard line

- The Marauders host MSU Moorhead Dragons in the Battle for the Paddle on Saturday, Oct. 25
- U-Mary leads the all-time series against MSUM 7-1
- After winning the first seven meetings, U-Mary lost to MSUM 48-41 last season

- Tallied six catches for 92 yards with a 44-yard touchdown reception in a 17-10 loss to University of Mary. Connette currently leads the team with 34 catches for 394 yards with three touchdowns.
Greg Lofquist, Sr., LB, South St. Paul, Minn.
- Tallied 15 tackles in a 17-10 loss to University of Mary. Has notched five-straight games with 10 or more tackles and now leads the NSIC in tackles with 94 tackles on the season. Lofquist also forced a fumble on the one yard line. Lofquist is two tackles from setting the school record for unassisted tackles. In addition, Lofquist needs just 27 tackles to set the school record for tackles.

THIS WEEK - at MISU
Minnesota Crookston will look to snap their winless streak as they take on Minot State on the road at 1:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles fell in a thriller in Crookston, Minn., last season as Minot State won 20-19 on a Brandon Boston 59-yard interception return for a touchdown with 2:01 left in the game. The Golden Eagles come into the weekend with an 0-7 mark and fell just short of a win last week against University of Mary. The Golden Eagles got a spark late off the bench from freshman quarterback Travon Hearns. It should be a battle this week to see whether Hearns or incumbent starter Ben Bucholz is the one taking snaps against the Beavers.

- Rushed for an even 200 yards (a career-high) and one touchdown on just 15 attempts in UMD’s 43-30 Homecoming win over Northern State University
- Averaged 13.3 yards every time he carries the ball
- It marked the 16th time a Bulldog had ever reached the 200-yard mark
- Now has 10 100-yard rushing days as a collegian, including five this fall

- Hit from 25, 27 and 49 yards (a career-high) while his lone miss was from 48 yards
- Also established a personal-best for points with 12 (was 3-3 on PATs).
- His 27-yard field goal with 1:26 to go in the first quarter put UMD in front for good at 17-14 in its win over Northern State
THIS WEEK - vs BSU
- The Bulldogs will  bring a 15-game regular season winning streak (the third longest in program history) and a perfect 7-0 record into this Saturday’s home engagement with Bemidji State University
- UMD is a perfect 17-0-0 lifetime versus Bemidji State at Malosky Stadium, the Bulldogs’ football home since 1966, and hasn’t lost to Bemidji State anywhere in Duluth in 73 years. That 19-game winning streak started with a 34-0 victory on Oct. 10, 1941).
- With a team-high six catches in last Saturday’s 43-30 takedown of visiting Northern State, senior Zach Zweifel moved into a tie for fifth place on the Bulldogs’ career pass reception charts with 146. At No. 7 on that list is fellow fourth year wide out Aaron Roth (118 catches). Against Northern State, Roth may have pulled of a college football first when, just four plays after he sacked Wolves quarterback Jared Jacobson and stripped the ball loose which resulted in a fumble the Bulldogs recovered, Roth hooked up with Drew Bauers on an 11-yard scoring strike.
The 567 yards of total offense UMD rolled up Saturday was a 2014 high as was its 8.4 yards per rush average
The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 57-17 in the third quarter this year
UMD as a team is rushing at a 6.4 yards per carry clip this fall
Nine different Bulldogs have scored offensive touchdowns in 2014
UMD is a +10 in turnover ratio this year. The Bulldogs have only been picked off twice and lost two fumbles through seven games
Junior cornerback Darion Fletcher became the fourth Bulldog to hit the 100-tackle mark this sason
The Bulldog are 39-2 in NSIC North Division play since the league instituted divisional play in 2008. That includes a perfect 22-0 mark at home.
Since the start of the 2008 season, no NCAA II club in the country has compiled a better winning percentage (.899 off an 80-9 record) while its 80 victories during that stretch is only bettered by defending national champion Northwest Missouri State (81).

- Connected on a 22-yard field goal at the 7:40 mark of the first quarter to tie the game at three.
- Posted seven kickoffs including three touchbacks.
- Averaged 55.1 yards per kickoff.
- With its win over Concordia-St. Paul, MSU has now won 29 straight NSIC games dating back to week one of the 2012 season.
- The Maverick defense recorded seven sacks for the second consecutive game.
THIS WEEK - at AUGIE
- This will be MSU’s 45th encounter with the Vikings, with AC holding the series edge at 23-21.
- The Mavericks have won their last three games against the Vikings, including a 20-10 victory last season.

-  blocked two punts including one that was advanced for a touchdown
-  It was the first two blocked punts for the MSU Beavers this season.
- earned his first career block in the first quarter
-  His second came in the third quarter and teammate #1 Michael Jenkins (DB, 6-1, 186, So., Orlando, Fla. / University) fell on the loose ball in the BSU end zone for a touchdown.
 - added a kick return tackled to go along with four stops on defense for a total of five tackles on the day.
Minot State struggled on offense, finishing with just 185 total yards in a loss at Bemidji State, falling for the 12 th straight game against their nickname rival from Minnesota.
The Beavers set a season-high for sacks in a game as MSU collected five in the game.
#1 Michael Jenkins (DB, 6-1, 186, So., Orlando, Fla. / University) had a great all-around day as he scored a touchdown falling on a loose ball in the end zone for his first career TD. He also led Minot State with 13 tackles.
#5 Levi Freidt (LB, 6-4, 209, Sr., Minot, N.D. / Bishop Ryan) collected his fifth game of 10 or more tackles, finishing with 11 stops. He also had two sacks, three tackles for a loss and a pass breakup.
#56 Aaron James (LB, 6-1, 235, Jr., Oklahoma City, Okla. / Douglass / Central Oklahoma) also finished with double figure tackles, recording 10 in the game. He finished with 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for a loss as well.
#10 Glyn Borel (WR, 5-7, 150, Sr., San Jose, Calif. / St. Francis / De Anza) caught his fourth touchdown pass of the season finished with 109 yards of total offense. He had 61 yards receiving, 54 punt return yards and a four-yard rush.
THIS WEEK - vs UMC
Minot State will look to snap a 10-game losing streak dating back to 2013 where it defeated Minnesota Crookston 20-19.
The Beavers own a 2-0 series record over UMC as members of NCAA Division II while the overall series is 3-3.

-  passed for a season-best 408 yards in Northern’s loss to No. 3 UMD on Saturday.
- The 408 yards passing are the second-most of Jacobson’s career.
- Jacobson passed for three touchdowns in the game and also ran for a touchdown.

- SCSU leads the all-time series with the Wolves 16-13-2 in a series that began in 1946
- The Huskies won big last year in St. Cloud (63-7)
- Northern defeated St. Cloud 28-27 in 2012 the last time the two met in Aberdeen. Jared Jacobson hit Mark Hanley for a 34-yard game-winning touchdown as time expired

#3 Nephi Garcia, RB, 5-7, 185, Sr., Palm Desert, Calif. (College of the Desert)
- Accumulated 148 yards and three TDs to lead #19 USF over SMSU, 44-20
- Rushed 14 times for 89 yards with two TD runs (1, 2) and had three receptions for 59 yards with a 17-yard TD catch. He now has 13 rushing TDs this season on the ground (2nd in the NSIC) and 15 overall.  
- With the 89 yards rushing, Garcia, who has 10 career 100-yard rushing games, including three in seven games this season, has 156 carries for 718 yards and 13 rushing TDs along with 17 receptions for 143 yards and two TDs. In total he has 90 points on 15 TDs, which ranks second in the NSIC. He is just one TD behind Chris Smith of Upper Iowa.

- recorded seven tackles and three interceptions, including a 35-yard return for a TD,
- Named NSIC Player of the Week on Sept. 29, the Wagner, S.D., native had his second game with three picks in a game. He also had his second interception return for a score.
- Leads the NSIC in interceptions with eight in seven games, which ranks tied for 1st in the nation with Jordan Shaw of Shorter College. He also has a league best 182 yards in interceptions returns, including two interception returns (76, 35) and a league-high 14 passes defended. St. Pierre now has 11 career picks.
#4 David Clark, DB/KR, 6-1, 200, Jr., San Diego, Calif. (Southwestern CC)
 - Had three kickoff returns for 141 yards, including a 93-yard TD return in the 4th quarter of #19 USF’s 44-20 win over SMSU on Saturday at Bob Young Field.
- Clark’s TD return is the first by a USF returner since Michael Hicks returned a kickoff 94 yards for a score against Minot State in 2011.
- This season Clark has seven returns for 236 yards or 33.6 avg., totals which lead the NSIC.
 THIS WEEK - at WSU
- The Cougars sit 0-2 vs. Winona State, losing in 2012, 10-9 in Winona and dropping a 45-40 decision a year ago in Sioux Falls.
- USF is 7-0 for the first time since transitioning to NCAA DII in 2011. It is also the second time the Cougars have gone 7-0 during the Jed Stugart coaching tenure. USF was 7-0 on the way to a 13-0 start and overall 13-1 record in the school’s final year in NAIA in 2010.
- For the second time this season, USF recorded five interceptions in a game and produced a season-best seven takeaways.
- The Cougars went over 400 yards in total offense for the seventh straight game. Against SMSU, the Cougars had 70 plays for 453 yards.
- For the first time in program history, USF is one game over .500, sitting 402-401-20.   
- USF improved its home record to 49-3 at Bob Young Field and 4-0 this season, including a 159-43 ppg margin.
- The Cougars’ defense has allowed just one TD in the first and fourth quarter combined. In fact, USF has a 177-to-16 margin in the 1st and fourth quarters. In just the fourth quarter, USF has a 101-to7 margin and have a 73-to-9 ppg edge in the 1st quarter.
- USF ranks second in total offense (483.7 yards per game) and scoring offense (43.9 ppg) in the NSIC. In addition, the Cougars, which forced a season-high seven turnovers, ranked first in the NISC in turnover margin (24-to-12) at 1.71. In addition, the USF defense is second in total defense (313.0 yards per game) in the league. Led by Solomon St. Pierre’s league-best eight interceptions (tied for 1st in NCAA DII), the Cougars have 16 interceptions as a team, which tops the NSIC by four picks.

Senior wide receiver Adam Olson, 6-1, 218, Pine City, Minn., Pine City HS
-Tied a career-high with a game-high 11 receptions for 75 yards in SMSU’s loss to Sioux Falls.
-He ranks tied for second on the team this season with 30 receptions for 230 yards and three touchdowns.
-Olson has played in all 41 games in his career and has 88 receptions for 831 yards and four touchdowns.
Junior safety Jared Twedt, 6-0, 205, Hudson, S.D., Canton HS
-Recorded a game-high 12 tackles, including 10 solo in SMSU’s loss to Sioux Falls.
-Twedt also had one tackle for loss and had an interception that he returned 34 yards.
-He ranks second on the team this season with 64 tackles and has a team-leading 39 solo tackles.
Senior kicker/punter, Mike Wenk, 6-0, 205, Hartford, S.D., West Central HS
-Averaged 45.8 yards on four punts, including two inside the 20-yard line.
-Also booted two field goals from 35 and 28 yards and made two extra points.
-Leads the NSIC in punt average at 45.1 yards and also has 14 punts inside the 20-yard line.
THIS WEEK - vs WSC
-Senior running back Tyler Tonderum is five yards from moving into second place on the school’s all-time rushing list.
-Southwest Minnesota State and Wayne State meet for the 26th time on Saturday night with WSC?leading 18-7 in a series that started on Nov. 1, 1969
- SMSU has won the last two meetings … and has never won three straight games in the sereis.


St. Cloud State  (3-4 NSIC, 2-1 North)

Nate Meyer (So., QB, Cold Spring, Minn.) passed for four touchdowns and rushed for two to lead St. Cloud State to a 55-27 win at MSU Moorhead. His four TD passes were one shy of tying the single game school record. He completed touchdown passes of 20, 22, 20 and 25 yards and ran in for 11 and six-yard scores. In the first quarter alone, he passed for two TDs and ran in for a third to give the Huskies a 20-14 lead. Meyer finished the game 17 of 35 passing and two interceptions. He posted a career high 347 passing yards and four TD passes. He also rushed for 25 yards. With the game tied 27-27 late in the third quarter, Meyer led the Huskies to 28 straight points, scoring on a six-yard run and passing for a 25-yard TD for the next 14 points. Meyer nearly surpassed his previous game high of 249 yards passing in the first half with 230 yards. It was the third straight game that Meyer has thrown two touchdown passes.
Ledell White (Jr., RB, Milwaukee, Wis.) rushed 28 times for a career high 169 yards and one touchdown. He scored on a three-yard run late in the fourth quarter. It marked the third 100-yard rushing game of the season for White and fifth of his collegiate career.
 Taylor Berger (Sr., WR, Ramsey, Minn.) had five catches for 138 yards, 11 yards short of his career high. Berger had three catches for 107 yards in the first half.
 Grant Thayer (Jr., TE, Appleton, Wis.) finished the game with three catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns. It marked the second straight game that Thayer has caught two scoring passes. He also scored a touchdown when he recovered a fumble in the end zone.
 Kyle Risinger (Sr., DB, Excelsior, Minn.) collected his third pick of the season and seventh of his career, and the Huskies came away with three interceptions on the day. Gary Koehring (Fr., LB, Kanesville, Ill) stopped the Dragons on the Huskies 13-yard line with his first collegiate pick. Jordan Sefon (Jr., DB, Richfield, Minn.) had the Huskies third pick of the day that he returned 29 yards. It was Sefons second pick of the season and fifth of his career.
For the second time this season the Huskies rolled to over 500 yards of total offense. The Huskies came up with 194 rushing yards and 347 passing yards for a season high 541 yards. The Huskies had 520 yards of offense on Oct. 4 at UMC.

- Upper Iowa fell to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC South following a 38-19 loss at home to Winona State
- UIU trailed 21-13 at halftime, but Winona State outscored their hosts 17-6 in the second half to pull away for the win
- The Peacocks were held to just 35 yards of rushing without the nation’s second leading rusher Chris Smith
- Cole Jaeschke threw for 232 yards and a touchdown on 23 of 50 throwing with two interceptions
- Derek Giesking (9 rec.) and Lucas Hefty (8 rec.) combined for 17 catches and 135 yards
- Giesking is first in the NSIC in receptions per game and 7th in receiving yards per game, while Hefty is 6th in the conference in rec/game
- Trey MacTaggart had three catches for 62 yards and the lone receiving touchdown for UIU
- Evan Dornink rushed in for Upper Iowa’s only score in the second half
- Tim Rueb converted 2 of 2 field goals from distances of 43 and 32
- Cole Stephen recorded 9 tackles to lead the defense, while Alex Wahl had 8 stops including a sack
- Chayz Holt picked off another pass and now has six interceptions on the season, which is second among all NSIC defenders
THIS WEEK - at CU
- Upper Iowa will take the short trip north to St. Paul, Minn. to challenge the Concordia University, St. Paul Golden Bears this Saturday, Oct. 25
- UIU is 1-7 versus CU, with their first win coming last season 28-24 in Fayette.

#28 Paul Preston (RB, 5-4, 161, So., Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South HS)
-    The shifty Preston rushed for a career-high 133 yards and a touchdown and finished with 201 all-purpose yards to play a crucial role in the Warrior offense in a 38-19 win at Upper Iowa.
-    Preston scored the game’s first touchdown for the Warriors on a 16-yard score to put the team up 7-0.
-    Reached 133 yards on just 20 carries, good for an impressive 6.7 yards per carry average.
-    Also contributed on special teams, returning his lone kickoff return 61 yards to start the second half that set up the Warrior offense in outstanding field position, leading to a touchdown that created separation and helped put away the game.
#44 Jarrett Wood (LB, 6-3, 245, So., Vernon Hills, Ill. / Vernon Hills HS)
-    Had a phenomenal game at Upper Iowa, acting as the key to a stout Warrior defense that shut down Upper Iowa’s high-powered offense to just 267 total yards and only 35 rushing yards on 23 attempts.
-    Led the team with seven tackles, including two for a loss.
-    Made an impact in virtually every aspect of the defense, contributing a sack, an interception return of 38 yards and also recovering an Upper Iowa fumble.
