Minnetonka, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's tennis team opened play in the 2014 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament with a 5-0 win over Minnesota State, Moorhead on Saturday, April 26.  The match was played at the Lifetime Fitness Tennis Center in Minnetonka.

The Huskies will now advance in the tournament and play #2 seed Mary in the semi-finals on Sunday, April 27 at 8 a.m.  The victory improves SCSU's season record to 13-12.

SCSU, the tournament's #3 seed, opened the day with an 8-3 win by Katie Kotschevar and Maribelle Siegfried at first doubles and an 8-4 win by Rachael Zwiener and Gabbie Pung at second doubles.  SCSU capped the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory at the third spot by Tori Marlton and Marilla Diversi.  In singles play, SCSU's El O'Brien scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles and Siegfried posted a 7-5, 6-4 win at second singles to ice the win.  In tournament play, the match is halted once a team has scored the decisive fifth point.

In the other first round matches on the opposite side of the bracket today, #1 seed Augustana played #8 seed Minnesota State, Mankato while #5 seed Winona State played #4 seed Upper Iowa.
