Nathan Hancock secured his second-straight NSIC Decathlon title in Aberdeen, S.D. on Monday.  Hancock posted 6,951 points including personal bests in the 1,500-meters (4:40.63) and 100-meter dash (10.84) as he surpassed the NCAA provisional mark of 6202. Hancock came within 17 points of the NSIC Decathlon record, which was set by MSU’s Tandy Juell in 2012.  His win earned the Mavericks ten points in the NSIC/US Bank Outdoor Track & Field Championship team standings.

Matadi competed at the Drake Relays this past weekend and returned home with one title to his name and two provisional qualifying times.  He helped guide the 4x100 relay team to the college division title with their final time of 40.29, which would rank third fastest in Division II this season. He would also finish fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.49, which would rank in the top 20 times in the nation this season. Matadi has already automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships with a 10.26 in the 100 as did the 4X100 relay with the nation’s fastest time of 40.15.  This marks the second week in a row Matadi has been named NSIC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

NSIC Team Notes
Augustana

Men’s Track: On the first night of competition for Augustana at the 2015 Drake Relays, senior Paul Yak was the only Viking to compete turning in a top-10 finish. The Storm Lake, Iowa native placed eighth in the men’s 5,000-meter run clocking a time of 14:23.00. A slow start hindered Yak’s chances of turning in a faster time and missing his personal-best mark by two seconds.
The men’s distance medley relay team of Paul Yak, Khor Kong, Zach Tuschen and Harald Karbo placed third with a time of 10:08.74 on day two of the Drake Relays.
Men’s Field: Mason Ford took second in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 1.96 meters (6 feet, 5 inches) at the Mount Marty Twilight this past Wednesday.

Concordia-St. Paul
CU participated in the Hamline Twilight, Macalester Twilight, Drake Relays and Drake Alternate last weekend.
Men’s Track: Tyler Naumowicz (Multi-event, Jr, 6’3, Waukesha, WI, Waukesh South HS) won the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles at the Macalester Twilight. CU will host the Golden Bear Twilight this Wednesday the April 29 and  compete in the Winona Open on May 2.

University of Mary
The Marauders found success at the Al Cassell Relays on Saturday, winning six events. Senior Jordan Washington won the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.23 seconds, just .15 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Jay Cooper captured the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.34. He just missed matching Aaron Teigen with two wins when he placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.28 seconds. The Marauders claimed the 4x100-meter relay behind Cooper, Corey Berner, Taren Staudinger and Jordan Washington. Jensen Roseboom cleared 14’ 7” in the pole vault for the Marauders final win on the day. Another strong performance was turned in by Berner. In addition to his win in the 4x400-meter relay, Berner placed second in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
Men’s Field: Aaron Teigen (Sr., Rugby, N.D.) swept his two events for the third time in four outings this season. At the Al Cassell Relays, the senior from Rugby, N.D., won the triple jump with a leap of 14.73 meters, an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark, the lone one recorded by Mary on the day. Teigen also won the long jump with a distance of 7.08 meters.

Minnesota Duluth
Buoyed by senior Nick Moran’s record-breaking performance in the hammer throw and two other first-place finishes, the University of Minnesota Duluth captured the team title at the Bolstorff Twlight meet Thursday night on the campus of St. Paul’s Macalester College.
Men’s Track: The 4 x 400 relay unit of freshmen Connor Behm, Darrick Jackson, Garrett Benz, and senior Phil d’Entremont took home top honors with a time of 3:22.24.
Men’s Field: Nick Moran’s winning throw of 58.27 bettered the previous Bulldog record set almost 10 years ago -- 57.35 meters by Josh Dark on April 30, 2005 at the Drake Alternative in St. Peter, Minn.  
The Bulldogs also received a first-place finish from sophomore Jason Lilja in the long jump (6.69 meters)

Minnesota State
The MSU men travelled to the Drake Relays over the weekend and saw their fair share of success.  The top-ranked 4x100 relays team, comprised of Richard Wilhite, Emmanuel Matadi, Kyran Stewart and Anthony Gustafson won the college division title with a final time of 40.29.   
Men’s Track:  Senior Emmanuel Matadi competed at the Drake Relays this past weekend and returned to Mankato with one title to his name.  He helped guide the 4x100 relay team to the college division title with their final time of 40.29.  He would go on to finish fifth in the 100-meter dash as well at 10.49.
Men’s Field: Nathan Hancock secured his second-straight NSIC decathlon title in Aberdeen on Monday evening.  Hancock posted 6,951 points including personal bests in the 1,500-meters (4:40.63) and 100-meter dash (10.84) as he surpassed the NCAA provisional mark of 6202.
Senior Keyvan Rudd raised his career-best in the high jump to 7’1.75”, maintaining his second spot in the national rankings.  

MSU Moorhead
Men’s Track: Josh Young (Fr., Moorhead, Minn. / Moorhead HS), at the Al Cassell Relays in Jamestown, won two events to lead the way for the Dragon men. He won the 800-meter run in 1:59.14 and also won the 1,500-meter run in 4:06.92.
Men’s Field: Beau Scheving (Throws, Sr., East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks HS), at the Al Cassell Relays on Saturday, was second in the shot put at 49-6 1/2. He was the Dragons’ top finisher in the field events.

Minot State
Minot State University men’s track team continued to get big marks from its javelin and 400-meter hurdle crews as the Beavers won both events at the University of Jamestown Al Cassell Relays.
Men’s Track: Tyler Flatland (Hurdles, 6-0, Sr., Watford City, N.D. / Watford City) won his fourth meet of the season in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.49 seconds. He missed a NCAA Division II Provisional mark by one hundredth of a second.
Glyn Borel (Sprints, 5-7, Sr., San Jose, Calif. / De Anza College) earned a personal best time of 11.03 seconds in the 100-meter-dash, winning the event for his first ever title in track & field. He finished fifth in the 200-meters with a 23.16.
Men’s Field: Cody Schmidt (Javelin, 5-11, Fr., Stanley, N.D. / Stanley) won his third meet of the year by out throwing teammate Phillip Streccius to win the javelin. He threw a day’s best of 193-feet-3 for the win.
Minot State has two regular season weekends remaining, starting with the Minnesota State University Moorhead Masanz Open Saturday.
 
Northern State
The Northern State University men’s track and field team had a busy weekend in Iowa at the Drake Relays, Kip Janvrin Open and the Grand View Classic.
Men’s Track: Andrew Johnson is earning consistency in the 100m dash with a 10.77 clocking for the win At the Viking Classic.
Men’s Field: At the Viking Classic, David Muprhy earned his second straight javelin title in two weeks with a toss of 50.22m (164’09”),  while Jake Wiedrich added to the victory column in the pole vault clearing 4.10m (13’05.25”).

Southwest Minnesota State
Men’s Track: Junior Will Hanson (Aurelia, Iowa / Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn / North Iowa C.C.), competing against mostly Division I athletes, finished 17th out of 26 runners in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.72 at the Drake Relays last Friday. He finished third among all Division II athletes in the race. He then competed in the Drake Alternative Meet at Gustavus on Saturday and won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.79. He capped the day winning the javelin with a distance of 55.58m.
Men’s Field: Redshirt freshman Lucas Woods (Winthrop, Minn. / Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS) won the long jump with a mark of 6.71m at the Drake Alternative Meet. He also placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.16m.
 
Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls concluded their busy week at the Mount Marty Twilight Open on Wednesday night and the Drake Alternative Meet on Saturday.
Men’s Track: Bobby Brockmueller (Sr., Brandon Valley, S.D./Brandon Valley HS) won the men’s 1,500-meter run at the Mount Marty Twilight, narrowly missing a provisional time as he finished with a season best time of 3:54.01.
Men’s Field: Jacob Zebedee (Jr., Winnebage, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) tied for first with a provisional qualifying mark in the men’s pole vault at the Drake Alternative meet. He cleared 4.87 meters, best among Division II, which is a personal-best and ranks as 25th in NCAA Divison II and second to his teammate in the NSIC.

St. Cloud State
Men’s Track: At the Drake Alternative  Sebastian Sowada (Fr. Little Falls, Minn.) found the podium in the 1500-meter run with a final time of 4:04.42.  
Men’s Field: Rafael Saez (Jr. Milwaukee, Wis.) threw 15.77m (51-09.00) in shot-put to take the gold at the Drake Alternative. His second win of the meet came in discuss, where he threw a final of 49.58m (162-08).  Ryan Johnson (Jr. Amery, Wis.) also competed in the event and placed in fifth with a throw of 46.60m (152-11). Johnson also took sixth in the hammer throw event with a 55.64m (182-06) final throw.

Wayne State
Men’s Track: Zach Thomsen (Sr., Wayne, Neb.) clocked a personal best and NSIC leading time in the 800m run of 1:53.16 at the Mount Marty Twilight Invite on Wednesday in Yankton, S.D.  Thomsen also competed at the Drake Relays on Saturday morning and anchored the men’s sprint medley relay team to an 7th place finish with a time of 3:30.21 in the college division where they were the top NCAA DII team and top NSIC team.
Men’s Field: Derek Lahm (So., Columbus, Neb.) hit an NCAA provisional national qualifying mark of 6,638 point to place second overall in his first ever decathlon.  Lahm was first in the long jump and 1500m, and second in the 100m dash, high jump, 400m dash, and javelin.
The Wildcats will have a select group compete at the MSU Mankato Twilight Meet on Wednesday and then also compete in the Howard Wood Relays on Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls as their final tune-up to the NSIC Championships.
