MSU leads NSIC/US Bank Men's Outdoor T&F Championship after Day 1

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Seven events are complete after day one of the NSIC/US Bank Outdoor Track & Field Championship held at Lillibridge Track & Field Complex, hosted by the University of Sioux Falls.  The three-time defending champions of Minnesota State hold a slight lead in the team standings headed into the final day of competition.

The Mavericks scored 46.50 points to hold a 6.50 edge on second place St. Cloud State after seven of 21 scored events.  The Mavericks earned ten points from Nathan Handcock’s decathlon win two weeks ago to go along with Keyvan Rudd’s win on Friday in the high jump.  Rudd cleared 6-9.75 to take the title while teammate Ben Ojika and Frank Veldman finished in third and fifth.  

MSU’s Emmanuel Matadi set an NSIC record in the prelims of the 100m dash with a 10.19, the fastest time in Division II this season.

St. Cloud State used strong performances in the discus to sit in second place with 40 points followed by Minnesota Duluth in third with 38 points.

The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.

The NCAA National Championships will take place on May 21-23 at in Allendale, Mich.

The NSIC/US Bank Outdoor Track & Field Championship resumes Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with field events followed by track finals beginning at 1 p.m.
