MSU Wins Fourth Straight NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championship

Sioux Falls, S.D.  – Minnesota State won its fourth straight NSIC/US Bank Outdoor Track & Field Championships behind a dominate performance at Lillibridge Track & Field Complex. The Mavericks, which have won six of the last seven titles, scored 202.5 points to win by over 100 points.  The Mavericks won five individual events and one relay at the championship. In all, six new records were set by the men at the championship.

On day one, MSU's Emmanuel Matadi set an NSIC record in the prelims of the 100m dash with a 10.19, the fastest time in Division II this season. He went on to win that event along with the 200m dash. Myles Hunter set a record in the 110m hurdles at 13.80 as he broke Northern State’s Luke Hauert 2013 record of 14.03.  David Pearcill set a new mark in the triple jump with a leap of 49-4.25 to break the record of 49-0 set by Cal Baker of MSU Moorhead in 1979.   
Sioux Falls’ Bobby Brockmueller earned high point performer as he amassed 22 points after winning the 1500m, was second in 5000m and fifth in the 10K. 

Other records set were by Augustana’s Adam Braun in the 3000m steeplechase.  He ran a 9:00.09 to bring Mike Francis’ (MSUM) record of 9:07.24 set back in 1974.  The Dragons Cody Christ also set a new mark in the 5000m as he clocked a 14:40.42, to break Bobby Brockmueller’s 2014 record of 14:43.74. 

The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.

The NCAA National Championships will take place on May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich. hosted by Grand Valley State University.  The entire field for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Tuesday, May 12 at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.
