NSIC Wrestler of the Week

Cole Wilson (285, Sr., Faribault, Minn. / Faribault HS) - Southwest Minnesota State
- Recorded a 2-0 record last weekend against Augustana and U-Mary
- Started the weekend with a pin over No. 8 (NCAA DII) Michael Lowman from Augustana
- Pinned Lowman (the third ranked wrestler in Super Region #3) at 6:54
- Recorded his sixth pin of the season
- The senior closed the weekend with a 1-0 decision over U-Mary’s Travis Smith
- The 285 pounder carries an eight-bout winning streak into Thursday’s dual with Northern State and an 18-3 overall record
 

2015-16 NSIC Wrestling Notes
Augustana
- Aero Amo went 2-0 at 184 pounds over the weekend with two pins
- Amo pinned Brody Goens at 1:43 to help the Vikings to a 27-12 win over SMSU
- Amo pinned Jacob Green at 2:20 in a 34-8 win over U-Mary
- Amo’s record is now 22-1 with a perfect 15-0 record in duals
- With the two pins over the weekend Amo leads the nation in pins with 11
- Lane Lettau went 2-0 over the weekend with a decision and victory pin
- Mitch Rechtzigel went 2-0 over the weekend with two decision victories
- Brandon Charbonneau went 2-0 over the weekend with a sudden victory and a decision
- The Vikings will be back in action when they travel to take on Minnesota State on Thursday and MSU Moorhead on Friday
 
U-Mary
- The Marauders resumed their conference schedule with duals against SMSU and Augie
- Tate Barnhardt and Josh Jensen were the lone grapplers to go perfect on the weekend
- Barnhardt pinned Antonio Meikel from SMSU at 4:05 and followed that with an 18-1 tech fall over Adrain Lozano at 5:18
- Jensen earned a 9-3 decision over Taylor Curtis from SMSU
- Jensen followed that up with an 8-6 decision over Javier Vieyra
- U-Mary had a strong start to both duals but couldn’t find a win as they fell 24-15 to SMSU and 34-8 to Augie
- The Marauders return to Bismarck to host No. 2 SCSU on Saturday, January 30

Minnesota State
- No. 14 MSU played host to St. John’s (DIII) on Thursday, where they defeated the Johnnies by a final score of 40-4
- The Mavericks were victorious in nine of the ten matches
- Alphonso Vruno (Sr., 141 lbs.) won by decision, 10-5, over No. 7 in DIII Ben Henle
- On Saturday, the Mavericks had a triangle dual against St. Olaf and UW-Oshkosh where they finished 2-0
- The Mavericks defeated St. Olaf 50-4 and UW-Oshkosh 41-12
- Trevor Schultz (Jr., 125 lbs.), No. 2 Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.), No. 8 Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.), Darick Vancura (Jr, 197 lbs.), and Malcolm Allen (R-Sr., 285 lbs.) all finished 2-0 on the day
- The Mavericks host Augustana on Thursday, where wrestling is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
- They travel to Upper Iowa on Saturday for a dual with the Peacocks, where wrestling is also scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
 
MSU Moorhead
- MSUM has moved up to No. 24 in the latest Basford rankings and is one of five NSIC teams ranked in the top 25
- The Dragon junior Blake Bosch is ranked second in the nation at 133 pounds with a 23-5 mark
- Bosch has won 15 straight matches to lead the team
- Bosch improved to 23-5 on the season with a pair of wins on the week
- Bosch pinned Jamestown’s Phillip Johnson in 1:20 to help the Dragons beat Jamestown, 43-3 on Tuesday
- Bosch recorded 2-0 win over St. Cloud State’s Jarred Oftedahl to account for the lone Dragon win against No. 2 St. Cloud State
- Four of the Dragons’ last five dual meets have come against teams ranked in the top 25
- The Dragons host Augustana on Friday

Minot State
- Minot State did not compete this past week
- Minot State will host Jamestown and St. Cloud State this week on Tuesday and Friday, respectively
 
Northern State
- The Northern State wrestling team fell to a pair of nationally ranked opponents over the weekend in No. 8 Upper Iowa and No. 2 St. Cloud State
- The Wolves dropped the opening dual 34-16 to the Peacocks
- Joe Gomez and Tyler Stenberg recorded victories for NSU versus Upper Iowa by major decision and fall
- In day two, Northern fell to St. Cloud State 44-4
- Gomez captured the lone victory for the Wolves versus the Huskies
- NSU will be back in action this Thursday versus Southwest Minnesota State on the road

Southwest Minnesota State
- SMSU went 1-1 last weekend losing to Augie in its opening NSIC match, before defeating U-Mary in its home opener
- SMSU loss three bouts to Augie in overtime or by one point
- Cole Wilson was the lone Mustang to record a pin against the Vikings in the 27-12 loss
- Freshman Kegen Fingalsen recorded his four fall of the season in the win the 24-15 win over U-Mary
- SMSU is 5-7 overall, 1-1 in the NSIC and will host Northern State on Thursday before traveling to Upper Iowa on Saturday

St. Cloud State
- The Huskies opened defense of its NSIC title with a pair of victories in league play on Jan. 22-23
- SCSU posted a 44-3 win at MSU Moorhead and the Huskies completed the weekend NSIC sweep with a 44-4 win over Northern State on Jan. 23
- The Huskies have now won 38 consecutive matches in NSIC competition
- The last time the Huskies lost an NSIC dual match was an 18-13 setback against Augustana on Jan. 27, 2011
- SCSU is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the latest Division II coaches poll.  SCSU wrestlers ranked in the latest national poll at the DII level include Tim Prescott (No. 1 at 125 pounds), Clint Poster (No. 1 at 165 pounds), Jay Hildreth (No. 6 at 149 pounds), Clayton Jennissen (No. 4 at 174 pounds) and Austin Goergen (No. 1 at 285-pounds)
- Poster owns a 25-1 record this season at 165-pounds.  He also has 13 falls this season
- At 285-pounds, Goergen is 23-0 this season.  He leads the club this year with 14 falls to his credit
- Jennissen joined the Huskies’ 20-win club this season with his two wins this weekend
- Jennissen now owns a 20-5 record for the Huskies in 2015-16
- The Huskies have won four consecutive NSIC championships in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015
- Hildreth continues to impress this year at 149-pounds after taking a redshirt season in 2014-15
- Hildreth gained a win over Minnesota State Moorhead on Jan. 22 and now owns a 21-4 record in 2015-16
 
Upper Iowa  
- The No. 8 Upper Iowa wrestling team improved to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the Northern Sun Conference with a 34-16 victory at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. on Friday night
- The Peacocks won seven of the ten matches including five with bonus-points including a fall, three tech falls and a major decision
- UIU used a 21-5 advantage in takedowns to fuel their win on the road
- Jordan Roths toed the line at 141 pounds and controlled his match for a 14-5 major decision; he scored four takedowns and added six points of nearfall to secure his win and give UIU a slim 7-6 lead
- Four straight bonus-point win through UIU’s middle weights secured the victory
- Jordan Rinken (157) got the ball rolling with a 17-2 technical fall, his fifth of the season, which included three takedowns, a pair of four-point nearfalls and a two-point nearfall
- Zak Benitz, the No. 6 ranked wrestler by the NWCA at 165 pounds, followed with a 23-8 technical fall featuring 10 takedowns in a match that ended at the close of the second period
- Colbey Vance made it two straight wins by fall in his last two duals with his first-round pin (1:38) at 174 pounds
- Dalton Westerlund closed out the Peacock run with a 16-1 technical fall at 184 pounds thanks to a takedown, a reversal and three separate four-point nearfalls
- The Peacocks return to Fayette for two 7 p.m. duals this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30.  Upper Iowa will host the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato this weekend
