NSIC Men's Basketball Players of the Week


NSIC North Division Player of the Week
#20 Gage Davis (G/F, 6-4, 185, R-So., Bolingbrook, Ill. / Bolingbrook HS)
St. Cloud State

- Led SCSU to a 98-78 win over UMC and 98-85 win over BSU
- Had a double-double in each game (his third and fourth of the season and 13th and 14th of his career)
- Led the Huskies to a pair of wins with 27 points in each game
- Led the team in rebounding in each game (12 vs. UMC and 18 vs. BSU)
- Also tied his career high with eight assists against UMC
- Averaged 27 points, 15 rebounds and five assists per game
- Knocked down all four free throws in the final 10 seconds against BSU to seal the three-point victory
- Played 72 minutes, shot 44.2 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range, and 78.6 percent from the free throw line

Augustana

- Averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a pair of wins
- Picked up a block and two steals in the two games
- Matched his career-high with 24 points to go along with four rebounds in Friday’s 103-66 win over CSP
- Scored 21 of his 24 points in the second half against the Golden Bears
- Followed that with a 22-point, six-rebound performance in a 83-81 win over Minnesota State
- Shot 73.9 percent from the field, hit 5-of-6 3-pointers and knocked down 7-of-8 free throws on the week

- Augustana improved to 3-0 in NSIC play this past weekend with a pair of home wins
- The Vikings opened the weekend scoring a season-high 103 points in a 103-66 win over Concordia-St. Paul
- Augustana head coach Tom Billeter won his 350th career game with Friday’s win over Concordia-St. Paul
- Augustana then turned around and picked up an 83-81 win over Minnesota State on Saturday
- In Friday’s win over Concordia-St. Paul, Augustana had five players in double-figures led by Adam Beyer who matched his career-high with 24 points
- Mike Busack added a season-high 18 points and nine rebounds while Steven Schaefer pitched in with a career-high 17 points
- Augustana finished the game shooting 56.7 percent from the field and hit 10 3-pointers marking the fifth time this season with 10 or more 3-pointers
- On Saturday, Augustana led by eight at 82-74 with 32 seconds remaining in the game and held off Minnesota State to earn the 83-81 victory
- The win gave Augustana its 37th consecutive home win
- Adam Beyer finished with 22 points and six rebounds for the Vikings picking up his second straight 20-point performance
- Zach Huisken had a big day for the Vikings as well finishing with a season-high 12 points and a career-high nine rebounds

- Jordan Spencer averaged a double-double on the weekend with 17.0 points, 10.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in two games
- Spencer recorded his second double-double of the season (fourth career) finishing with 14 points and 12 assists to go along with four rebounds
- On Saturday, Spencer finished with 20 points, eight assists, two rebounds and two steals against Minnesota State
- Spencer also went over 500 career assists on the weekend moving into second all-time at Augustana with 510 career assists
- Spencer knocked down 13 of 14 free throw attempts on the weekend
- Senior guard Adam Beyer averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists on the weekend
- Mike Busack averaged 14.5 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds over the weekend

- Bryndan Matthews averaged a team-best 11.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in 46.2% (12-26) shooting in 27.7 minutes per game in the week

- Sr. forward Bryan Jefferson posted his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds against the Dragons
- The next night he scored 17 points, had six rebounds, registered five assists, blocked two shots, had two steals and made 5-of-8 shots from the floor and 7-of-9 free throws
- For the weekend he averaged 16.5 PPG, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals while making 9-of-11 free throws and 12-of-24 shots
- Sr. F Rickey Suggs came off the bench to score double digit points each game with 11 against the Dragons and 14 against the Wolves
- He made 11-of-19 shots and averaged 4.5 rebounds/game

- UMC shot 46.6 percent on the weekend from the field and 34.3 percent from beyond the arc
- They averaged 11 turnovers per game and 72.5 points per game
- The Golden Eagles were out-rebounded 37 to 28 on the weekend
- UMC shot 51.2 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc against St. Cloud State

- Finished with just four turnovers at MSUM and had just 13 on the weekend
Top Performer(s)
- Tyler Rudolph continues to be a dominating offensive player in the Northern Sun, averaging 26.6 points per game, while adding nine rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot on the weekend
- Nathaniel Moore had his best weekend of his Beavers career, scoring 20 points at NSU and adding 14 against MSUM, while finishing with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals
- Luis Ricci Maia was steady at the point for the Beavers in two games, scoring 15 points and adding five assists at MSUM, while starting the week with a 14-point, 6-assist, 2-steal night at NSU
- Nathan Mertens averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals on the weekend hitting all six free throw attempts

- NSU held a lead as large as 23 points in the game, but were able to hold off the rallying Beavers to secure the victory
- In night two, Northern shot 47.4% from the field, 50.0% from the arc, and 85.7% from the foul line
- The score was tied on three occasions with the Marauders, however the Wolves lost the lead late in the second and were unable to regain it

- Logan Doyle led the team versus the Beavers with a career high 23 points, knocking down 17-of-20 free throws
- Mack Arvidson led the team against the Marauders with 18 points, knocking down 6-of-9 3-pointers. Arvidson has scored in double digits in each of the Wolves nine games this season

- USF has lost five games by four points or combined 12 points
- In its six losses USF has lost by combined 19 points or 3.16 ppg. In its four wins, the Cougars have won by 93 total points or 23.25 ppg
- USF is tied for first in scoring defense at 68.7 and second in field goal defense at 40.1 percent in NSIC stats
- USF, which has won the rebound battle in 8-of-10 games, leads the NSIC in rebounding at 40.7 per game and sit first in defensive boards at 30.2 per game
Top Performers
- Mack Johnson hit nine three pointers this weekend to establish new USF career school record on threes with 202, old mark – 193. Also moved into 10th all-time at USF with 1,334 career points
- With his second and third 20 point games of the season (21 vs Winona State and 22  s Upper Iowa), sophomore forward Drew Guebert has moved into 7th place in scoring in NSIC stats
- Zach Wessels had a career best 18 points in the win over Winona State. His previous high was nine points

- SMSU played without leading rebounder Carter Kirk in the win at Winona State. He missed the game with an injury
- SMSU won twice last week, despite shooting less than 40 percent in both wins
- SMSU had outrebounded its opponents in five straight games

-The 27 points is a season high for any SCSU player this season
-Davis has led the team in scoring in nine straight games and topped 20 points in seven games
-The program shot 53.3 percent from the field and 55 percent from three-point range against Minnesota Crookston when they outscored the Golden Eagles 43-13 over the last 11:31 of the game
-The Huskies held the rebounding edge in each game on week and have won the battle of the boards in all 10 games this season.
-The team tied its season-high with 45 rebounds against Bemidji State

- UIU trailed for 38 minutes on Friday against SMSU, but rallied late and hit two free throws with seven seconds left to pull out the win
- The Peacocks led at halftime on Saturday against USF and never trailed in the final 20 minutes despite going 24-44 from the free throw line
- UIU forced 31 turnovers on the weekend
- Upper Iowa’s four-game winning streak is their longest streak since the 2013-14 season, the first year under Head Coach Brooks McKowen
Top Performer(s)
- Redshirt senior Jordan Hay averaged 14.0 points for the weekend, including the two game-winning free throws late against SMSU on Friday night
- Senior Luke Lenhart put up 13 points in each game, on 5-12 shooting from behind the arc
- Senior Josh Weeber 13.0 points in two games, including a 21-point effort on Saturday
- Weeber posted his second 20-point effort of the season, and the ninth such game of his career
- Junior Carson Parker averaged 3.5 assists per game on the weekend, and hit four consecutive free throws with under 30 seconds remaining to close out the Cougars on Saturday
