MANKATO, Minn. – Augustana freshman Olivia Montez Brown won the NSIC Pentathlon as the 2015-16 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship got underway on Sunday from Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota. Montez Brown set personal records in four of the five events and recorded her highest score in the Pentathlon in her young career.
Montez Brown scored 3641 points and finished 92 points ahead of Molly McDonald of the University of Mary who scored 3549 points. Montez Brown started the day by winning the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.85. She followed that up with a third place finish in the high jump (5-2.5) and a fourth place finish in the shot put (34-8.25). Montez Brown then scored 715 points in the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 18-2.5 to open up a 124 lead headed into the final event of the day. In the 800m run, Montez Brown finished ninth with a time of 2:29.90 to end the day with 3641 points and take home 2016 NSIC Pentathlon Championship honors.
In all, the top eight finishers in the pentathlon scored over the NCAA provisional mark of 3228 in the competition.
The NSIC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships will continue on Friday and Saturday, February 26-27 in Mankato, Minnesota.
