Mankato, Minn. - Minnesota State won its fifth straight NSIC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship in convincing fashion at Myers Field House. The Mavericks, which also won its seventh championship in the last eight years, totaled 209.2 team points to finished 110.2 points ahead of second place Augustana.
Four athletes tied for NSIC High Point Performer as Augustana’s Keegan Carda, MSU Moorehads Brady Speicher and Minnesota State’s Kyran Stewart and Alex Campbell all scored 20 points. Carda won the 3000m and 5000m runs, Stewart won the 60m and the 200m dash and Speicher took home the win in the 800m and mile run. Campbell was second in the triple jump, third in the high jump and the long jump.
Carda made his way into the record books with a record time in the 5000m run. Carda finished in 14:45.85 to break the 2011 record of 14:47.55 set by Wayne State’s John Kern.
St. Cloud State’s Eijah Pitchford set a new record in the triple jump, bounding 40-1.5 to break MSU’s David Pearcill’s 2014 record of 49-0.75.
On Friday, Minnesota State’s Myles Hunter set a record in the prelims of the 60m hurdles as he shaved two hundredths of a second off his prelim time from last year with a run of 7.76. In the finals on Saturday he crushed his old mark from the day before with an NSIC record time of 7.69 and is an NCAA automatic qualifying mark.
The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.

The NCAA National Championships will take place on March 12-13 at Weed Athletic Complex in Pittsburg, Kansas. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, March 1 at approximately 5 p.m.
