NSIC Wrestler of the Week

Cole Wilson (285, Sr., Faribault, Minn. / Faribault HS) - Southwest Minnesota State
- Went 2-0 last weekend against No. 2 St. Cloud State and Minot State
- Recorded a 4-2 sudden-victory over No. 1 Austin Goergen of St. Cloud State
- Gained his first win over Goergen and handed the top ranked wrestler his first loss of the season
- Finished the week with a 3-0 decision over Minot State’s Mitch Eull
- Has won 12 straight matches to improve to 22-3 and remains undefeated in the NSIC at 6-0
- This marks the second time this season Wilson has been named NSIC Wrestler of the Week (1/15/16)

2015-16 NSIC Wrestling Notes
Augustana
- Augustana defeated Minot State 45-0 before falling to No.8 Upper Iowa 26-12
- Brandon Charbonneau defeated Tanner Crissler from Minot State by a 6-3 decision at 141 pounds on Friday
- Charbonneau defeated Upper Iowa’s Jordan Roths by a 3-1 sudden victory
- Aero Amo went 2-0 with a first period pin over Briley Crissler from Minot State and defeated Dalton Westerlund from Upper Iowa by a 7-2 decision
- Michael Lowman went 2-0 over the weekend with a 6-1 decision over Mitchell Eull from Minot and then won on a first period pin over Avery Jacobs  
 
U-Mary
- U-Mary had their dual against MSU Moorhead postponed due to weather concerns and will make up the match on February 21
- The Marauders will host Dickinson State and St. John’s this week for a triangular on Sunday, February 14

Minnesota State
- No. 15 Minnesota State lost its home finale to No. 2 St. Cloud State by a final score of 30-5
- Alphonso Vruno (Sr., 141 lbs.) and No. 8 Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs.) picked up wins in the defeat
- It was senior day as Alphonso Vruno, No. 2 Matt Mincey (R-Sr., 157 lbs.), Brad Maas (Sr., 165 lbs.), No. 8 Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) and Malcolm Allen (R-Sr., 285 lbs.) were all honored for their time as Mavericks
- No. 2 Matt Mincey was defeated for the first time this year in a 13-6 decision vs Larry Bomstad (St. Cloud State)
- The Mavericks hit the road for their final two duals of the regular season, where they will square off against Northern State on Thursday and Southwest Minnesota State on Friday with both matches scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

MSU Moorhead
- MSUM picked up its first NSIC win of the season with a 32-8 rout of Northern State on Thursday
- Dragons won eight of the 10 matches
- Blake Bosch led the way with a win by technical fall at 133; he is ranked No. 2 in the nation in that class and is 25-5 on the season
- Three Dragons won by major decision on Thursday: Jared Goldsmith (125), Garret Hoffner (157) and Austin May (184)
- MSUM hosts Minot State on Friday and Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday

Minot State
-Minot State went 0-2 on the weekend against Augustana and Southwest Minnesota State
-True freshman Hunter Hart earned his first career pin at SMSU
-Hart’s pin came in 48 seconds, the fourth fastest for the Beavers this season
-Cody Haugen earned his 12th win of the season in a 9-4 victory at SMSU
-Minot State travels to Dickinson State on Wednesday and Minnesota State Moorhead on Friday

Northern State
- The Northern State University wrestling team matched up against MSU Moorhead and Chadron State a week ago
- The Wolves fell in both duals 32-8 and 28-18
- Tyler Stenberg and Joe Gomez went 2-0 each on the week, tallying a total of 18 points for NSU
- Matt Bettencourt and Blake Perryman were the final two Wolves to record victories versus Chadron State
- Northern returns to the mat for a pair of home duals this Thursday and Saturday, hosting Minnesota State and Dickinson State
 
Southwest Minnesota State
- SMSU split conference duals last weekend against No. 2 SCSU and Minot State
- SMSU suffered a 41-3 loss to the Huskies last Thursday before defeating the Beavers Saturday, 39-9
- SMSU suffered its 10th straight loss to SCSU, while defeating Minot State for the fifth consecutive time
- Cole Wilson went 2-0 last weekend against No. 2 St. Cloud State and Minot State
- Wilson recorded a 4-2 sudden-victory over SCSU’s Austin Goergen—ranked No. 1 in the nation and undefeated—to hand the heavyweight his first loss of the season and his first over Goergen
- Wilson finished the weekend with a 3-0 decision over Minot State to push his win streak to 12 straight and to remain undefeated in conference action
- Wilson is 22-3 overall and 6-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action
- SMSU will enter the weekend 7-9 overall, 3-3 in the NSIC and will host Minnesota State on Friday, before traveling to MSU Moorhead Saturday.

St. Cloud State
- St. Cloud State is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II poll
- Individually, SCSU’s Tim Prescott (No. 1 at 125), Jay Hildreth (No. 5 at 149), Clint Poster (No. 1 at 165), Clayton Jennissen (No. 4 at 174) and Austin Goergen (No. 1 at 285) also gained top DII national rankings in the poll
- The Huskies improved to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in NSIC competition with a 41-3 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Feb. 4 and a 30-5 win over Minnesota State on Feb. 6
- The match against SMSU was contested at nearby Pierz-Healy High School in Pierz, Minn
- On the topic of Clint Poster, the senior owns a 29-1 overall record this season at 165 pounds with 15 falls to his credit
- At 184-pounds on Feb. 6, SCSU’s Uthman Rabiu gained a 3-1 upset win over No. 8 ranked Scott VanDeLoo of Minnesota State
- Rabiu now owns a 16-6 record this season for the Huskies
- No. 1 ranked Austin Goergen lost his first match of the season on Feb. 4 but he returned quickly with a fall at 6:57 against MSU’s Malcom Allen
- Goergen now owns a 26-1 record with 15 falls to his credit in 2015-16
- Jay Hildreth moves to 24-4 on the season with his wins at 149-pounds against SMSU and MSU last week
- The Huskies will continue their season on Feb. 11 with a 7 p.m. Dual against NSIC rival Upper Iowa
- The Huskies are the four-time defending NSIC champions and have charted a perfect 29-0 record in league matches since 2011-12
- SCSU has not lost a conference dual since the 2010-11 season

Upper Iowa  
- No. 8 Upper Iowa won seven of the ten matches against Augustana to claim a 26-12 win
- The Peacocks improve to 14-1 overall and remain undefeated in the Northern Sun at 7-0
- Upper Iowa recognized their three seniors prior to the dual honoring Mitch Funk, Matt Paulus and Jordan Rinken
- Matt Paulus (No. 8 NWCA) got a pin just 18 seconds into the third period to open the dual with a 6-0 lead; the pin was his 7th of the season
- 125-pounder Maleek Williams improved to 5-0 with a win by fall (1:20) to close the dual
- Damian Penichet, Jordan Rinken, Zak Benitz (No. 5 NWCA), Colbey Vance and Ryan Parmely all recorded decisions to go along with UIU’s two pins
- Upper Iowa scored a 13-9 advantage in takedowns to fuel their seven victories and claimed a 2-1 advantage in bonus-point wins
- The Peacocks will now travel to No. 2 St. Cloud State University on Thursday night with the Northern Sun Conference Championship on the line - Both teams are undefeated in conference duals as the matches will begin at 7 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minnesota
