Reese Gregory Leads SCSU to 10-3 NSIC Tournament Victory over Augustana

ST. CLOUD, Minn.  – Senior Reese Gregory threw a complete game on the mound and also recorded two hits including a home run to lead St. Cloud State (40-8) to a 10-3 victory over Augustana (36-16) in the second round of the 2016 NSIC Baseball Tournament on Friday, May 13, at Dick Putz Field.

Gregory (5-0) allowed three runs (all in the first inning) on eight hits in throwing the complete game. Augustana's Michael Letkewicz (5-2) surrendered seven runs on nine hits in taking the loss.

Besides Gregory, four different SCSU batters recorded multiple hits in the contest. Senior Karl Sorensen also picked up two hits and three RBIs. Senior Kyle Lieser had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Jackson Goplen also totaled a pair of hits. Eight of the nine starters recorded a hit in the contest for SCSU. The Huskies outhit the Vikings 12-8 in the game.
 
The Vikings were led by Alex Beals three hits. Patrick Fiala drove in two of the team's three runs.
 
Augustana's scored all three of their runs in the opening inning on an RBI double from Alex Fink and a two-run home run from Fiala.

The game remained 3-0 Vikings until SCSU tied the game with three runs in the fourth inning on Sorensen's ninth home run of the season.

SCSU took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth inning on Lieser's sixth home run of the campaign.

The Huskies put up two more runs in the sixth inning on a Zak Hoffman RBI double and a Judd Davis RBI single.

Zach Hoffmann drove in the next two for SCSU in the seventh inning with his ninth home run of the season.

Zach Metzger's fourth home run of the season completed the scoring and made the final score 10-3.
 
St. Cloud State advances to the next round of the NSIC Baseball Tournament and will face-off against Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, May 14, beginning at noon.
