Sioux Falls, S.D. – One record fell on the women's side on day one of the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championship held at Howard Wood Field, hosted by Augustana University. Augustana leads in the team standings with 59.50 points followed by Winona State with 36.50. Sioux Falls is in third with with 33 points while indoor champions from Minnesota State are fourth with 32.33 points.
The University of Sioux Falls Courtney Crandall set a new record in the women’s pole vault clearing 13-4.5 to break Minnesota State’s Katelin Rains’ 2009 mark of 13-4.25.
Augustana used strong field performances from Bree Woelber and Olivia Montez Brown. Woelber won the heptathlon with Montez Brown finishing second two weeks ago. On day one in Sioux Falls Woelber won the javelin, was third in the high jump, and placed fifth in the long jump. Montez Brown won the long jump as the two combined for 48 team points.
The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.
The NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championship resumes Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with field events followed by track finals beginning at 1 p.m.
