SCSU Heading To NSIC Championship After 13-2 Victory Over Concordia-St. Paul

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State baseball (41-8) scored more than 10 runs for the third time in as many NSIC Baseball Tournament games in the 13-2 victory over Concordia-St. Paul (29-14) at Joe Faber Field on Saturday, May 14.
 
Sophomore Sheldon Miks (8-2) allowed just six hits in earning the victory with seven scoreless innings. He also struck out nine and didn't walk a batter. CSP's Josh Lenz (7-2) was knocked out of the game after allowing six runs in three innings in defeat.
 
Freshman Judd Davis totaled four hits and drove in a pair of runs. Senior Karl Sorensen tallied three hits and three RBIs. Sophomore Jackson Goplen recorded a pair of hits and scored two runs. Senior Kyle Lieser had two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Ben Suits led Concordia-St. Paul with a pair of hits.
 
The game was scoreless until SCSU tallied six runs in the third inning. Lieser had an RBI, Zach Hoffmann drove in a pair of runs, Sorensen plated a run with a single and Zak Hoffman recorded a pair of RBIs.

The Huskies put four more runs up in the fifth inning. Sorensen doubled in a run. A Judd Davis single drove in two runs with a third run scoring on a fielding error on the play.

SCSU scored two more runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double from Lieser and run scoring single to left field from Sorensen.

Concordia-St. Paul broke up the shutout in the eighth inning on Roch Whitaker's  single.

The Huskies scored their final tally of the game in the ninth inning on Mathew Meyer's fourth home run of the season.

CSP scored a single run in the bottom of the frame on a double from Yuji Suzuki to make the final score 13-2

Next, SCSU will play for the 2016 NSIC Baseball Championship. The team will take on the winner of Concordia-St. Paul against either Minnesota Duluth or Augustana at noon on Sunday, May 15, at Joe Faber Field. The Huskies, who are undefeated thus far in the tournament, will need to be defeated twice in the double elimination format
