Minnesota State wins first NSIC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship since 1983

Sioux Falls, S.D.  – The Minnesota State University, Mankato women won its first NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championship since 1983 behind an impressive performance at Howard Wood Field. The Mavericks amassed 152.333 points to win by 14.83 points over second place Augustana.  The Mavericks won five individual events and two relays at the championship.
 
Two new NSIC records were set during the championship. Augustana’s Bree Woebler earned NSIC High Point Performer as she scored a massive 32 points for the Vikings.  Woebler won the heptathlon with an NSIC record 5111 points two weeks ago.  Over the last two days she added a win in the javelin and took third in the high jump, was fifth in the long jump and seventh in the 100m hurdles. 
 
The other record was broken on day one, when the University of Sioux Falls Courtney Crandall set a new record in the women's pole vault clearing 13-4.5 to break Minnesota State's Katelin Rains' 2009 mark of 13-4.25.

The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.

The NCAA National Championships will take place on May 26-28 at in Bradenton, Florida. The entire field for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Tuesday, May 17 at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.
