MANKATO, Minn. – Wayne State’s Josh Spenner vaulted his way from eighth place after day one, to become the 2016 NSIC Decathlon Champion. Spenner scored 804 points in the pole vault, more than 250 points than second place to finish with 6496 points and claim the decathlon title.
Spenner, a sophomore from Columbus, Nebraska finished 375 points ahead of second place James Ryan of Minnesota Duluth. Spenner won three of 10 events in the competition, taking first in the shot put (39-10.5), pole vault (15-3) and discus (124-5). Spenner holds the top score in the NSIC in the decathlon this season and ranks 20
th in Division II this season.
Spenner, Ryan and Jack Curtis from Minnesota State all earned NSIC All-Conference honors for their top three finish.
The NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will continue on May 13-14 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. hosted by Augustana University.
