Augustana's Bree Woelber breaks NSIC Women's Heptathlon Record

MANKATO, Minn. - Bree Woelber won the NSIC Heptathlon with an NSIC record 5111 points.   Teammate and 2016 NSIC Indoor Pentathlon Champion Olivia Montez Brown was second with 4951 points.  The event was held the past two days on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato. 

Woelber's 5111 points surpasses Heather Miller's 2010 mark of 5063 points.  Her score is an NCAA provisional qualifier and ranks as the fifth best score in the Division II this season.  Woelber, who missed last outdoor season due to an injury, was the 2015 NSIC Indoor Pentathlon Champion.

On day two, Woelber was third in the long jump at 17-10.75, won the javelin with a toss of 135-09 before finishing 12th in the 800m run at 2:36.72.  MSU's Jessika Dieringer won the 800m run in a time of 2:19.96. Montez Brown won the long jump at 18-6.5 as and Augustana athlete won five of the seven events. 

In the first event of day one, the 100-meter hurdles, Woelber took home first with a time of 14.43 while Montez Brown finished in third with a time of 14.59. Woelber, the 2015 NSIC Indoor Pentathlon winner, took home first in the high jump clearing the bar at 5-7.75.

Montez Brown won her first event on day one in the shot put with a throw of 36-10.5 while Woelber came in second with a throw of 35-5.25.

In the final event of the day one MSU Moorhead's Caroline Jansen won the 200m with a time of 26.16.  Woelber came in fifth at 26.65 and Montez Brown eighth at 26.86.

The NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will continue on May 13-14 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. hosted by Augustana University.
