NSIC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Mason Phillips  (So., Bailey, Colo. / Platte Canyon HS)
Sioux Falls

- Won the individual title in a highly competitive field at the Fort Hays State Open
- Clocked a career-best 24:48.0 on the 8K course at the Sandy Plum course
- Has gone 3-for-3 in individual wins at meets this fall, also winning the Augustana Twilight and the Roy Griak Invite
- Named NSIC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for third time this season (9/6/17 & 9/26/17)

- Augie took first at the Bob Waxlax Invite with 16 points
- Jesus Urtusuastegui, who took first and never looked back with a time of 25:51.3
- Rounding out the team scoring for Augustana was Logan Burns (second), Aaron Runge (third), Nate Souther (fifth) and Austin Miller (seventh)

- Sophomore Benjamin Allen and junior Caleb Troe continued their strong starts by finishing sixth and eighth
- Allen and Troe were within just 12 seconds of each other with Allen leading the team at 26:19.8
- Troe run of 26:31.7 was the fourth fastest CSP time at the Wapicada course
- Cole Oslin (26:51.5), Tyler Hudson (26:59.9) and Peyton Holmes (27:13.1) each had strong finishes and season-best times, placing 12th, 13th and 15th

- Derek Myers led the Marauders with a third place finish at the Jimmie Invitational, posting a time of 25:15.00 in the 8K race
- Taking fourth with the same time as Myers was Tyler Erickson, the senior from Roseau, MN.
- Coming in fifth was senior Kevin Carpenter at 25:22.00
Team Notes
- The Marauders posted 30 team points to easily take first place at the Jimmie Invitational out of ten teams
- The runner-up was MSU Moorhead with 44 points
- Five of the top 12 finishers were Marauders and two others placed in the top 33

- For the fourth time in four meets this season, senior Cody Sedbrook was the top Bulldog, completing the 8,000-meter race in 25:45.0
- Sedbrook was 35tg out of 361 runners
- Junior Isaac Overmyer was next (76th place, 25:45.0) followed by senior Grant Pulver (80th place; 26:15.8), junior Luke Laher (89th place; 26:23.3) and senior Blake Anderson (110th place; 26:40.8)
Team Notes
- UMD finished 14th among 31 schools at the Lewis University Conference
- All but two of the team that place ahead of the Bulldogs cracked the top 25 -- or received votes in their respective national polls

- Sophomore Nadir Yusuf was runner-up with a time of 25:01
- Freshman Hunter Kjelshus finished 11th, just outside the top 10, with a time of 26:03

- Dragons finished 14 points behind Mary
- MSUM had three runners in top 11

- Mason Phillips won the individual title in a highly competitive field at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open
- Phillips clocked a career-best 24:48.0 on the 8K course at the Sandy Plum course
- Phillips has now gone 3-for-3 in meets this fall
- After opening the year with a victory at the Augustana Twilight, Phillips became USF’s first-ever Roy Griak individual champion
- In a talented field on Saturday, Phillips took the lead with 400 meters to go and defeated Chandler Reid of Adams State (24:52.4) by four seconds
- Steven Brown was third with a career-best 25:04.7 clocking at the FHSU Tiger Open
- In the FHSU Tiger Open, USF placed five runners in the top 50 of 167 entered in the competition
Team Notes
- In the team standings at the FHSU Tiger Open, USF had 114 points to finish behind team champion Western State, 51 (four runners in top 10); Adams State, 77; Central Missouri, 93
- USF Men’s Team has three top five placings this fall. USF, which was earlier ranked #15 in the USTFCCCA national poll, won the Augustana invite was fifth at the Roy Griak Meet and fourth at the FHS Tiger Open
- This past week, USF was ranked fifth in the Central Region rankings
