NSIC Athletes of the Week

NSIC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Glen Ellingson
(Distance, Sr., Moorhead, Minn. / Moorhead HS)
Augustana

- Took first at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan. in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:19.56
- Set the school record in the 5,000-meters and is currently ninth in Division II and ranks first in the NSIC
- Hit the provisional mark in the 5,000-meters

(Pole Vault, Sr., Winnebago, Minn. / Blue Earth Area HS)
Sioux Falls

- Set an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the men’s pole vault
- Cleared 17 -0.75, which ranks fifth in NCAA Division II this season
- One of just five vaulters to clear 17 -0.75 (5.20 m) this season
- Moved into third in USF all-time list and became just third USF vaulter to clear 17 feet
- Ranks second in the NSIC this season behind teammate Scott Greenman

- Paul Meloche raced to the fourth best time in the prelims in the 60-meter hurdles
- Peter Schukking and Alex Woods placed 11th and 12th respectively in the NSIC Indoor Heptathlon

- Benjamin Allen and Caleb Troe both broke school records at the UST Showcase as Allen broke the mile record with a time of 4:22.11 while Troe broke the record in the 5k with a time of 15:20.96
- Tyler Naumowicz moved up three places on day two in the heptathlon to earn the team a point with an eighth place finish at the NSIC Multi-Event Championships

- CSP collected 10 finishes inside the top-10 on Friday at the UST Showcase

- Soph. Luxon Glor placed seventh in the 200 meter dash, the top finish among NSIC entrants at the meet
- Jack Lamb and Sam Mackedanz tied for 6th in the high jump with an effort of 1.97 meters. Close behind was Shenley Allen in ninth place at 1.92 meters
- Kevin Carpenter was 9th in the 5,000 meter

- Placed three high jumpers among the top nine at the SDSU Indoor Classic and had another two claim top nine finishes

- Brian Lee placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 61-8.5, which bettered the previous UMD mark of 59- 09, which he set one year ago (Feb. 16) at the University of Minnesota's Snowshoe Open, and was also an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and currently ranks #1 in the conference and #14 in NCAA Division II
- Ryan Tolkinen prevailed in the 200-meter hurdles, clocking in at 25.00, and in the process broke Forrest Randall's school-record effort from Jan. 27, 2007 (25.14)

- John Schuster set a career best time in the 400-meter dash when he ran it in 48.13 which is a provisional qualifying time as well as the seventeenth best time in DII this season
- London Thurman finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 49-3 which set a new personal best for him, met provisional qualifying standards, and was the 15th best jump in DII this season

- Sophomore Jonas Matzen tied for third in the high jump at 6-7 1/2

- Senior Devin Strack was 13th in the triple jump at 45-4 1/2

- Junior Brian Huber is ranked first in the long jump and second in the 200m in the NSIC heading into the week
- Junior Josh Young is ranked first in the NSIC in the 1,000 meters and the mile
- Sweep is ranked fourth in 60-meter hurdles
- Matzen is ranked eighth in high jump

-  Zachary Ulmer broke the 800m record with a time of 1:54.49. His time of 1:54.49 bested the two year old school record of 1:55.86 set by Brandon Krein in 2015
- Ulmer also tallied a third place finish in the 1,000m run the previous day, hitting the line at 2:30.70. Adam Leach finished close behind in seventh overall
- Bryce LeBlanc led the men in the shot put finishing sixth with a 13.78m toss. Gage Rayman followed in seventh with a 13.61m mark
- Luke Wietgrefe was the first on the men's side to crack into the top-15, finishing fifth overall in the 600m run
- TJ Hochstetler led the Wolves from the NSIC Multis finishing tenth with 4,541 total points
- In the first day of competition from the multis, Deshonn Brown jumped a personal best 2.09m in the high jump, moving him to 11th nationally in the event
Team Notes
- From the SDSU Indoor Classic the Wolves tallied eight top-15 finishes in the two day competition against Division I opponents
- The men's 4x400 meter relay notched an eighth place finish overall. The team of Rodriguez, Zach Six, Isaiha Fletcher, and Luke Wietgrefe finished with a time of 3:20.07. The men were even closer to the school record missing the mark by just .12 of second in a strong outing

- Jacob Zebedee hit the automatic qualifying standard in the men’s pole vault with a 5.20-meter (17-0.75) clearance
- Jase Kraft broke the USF men’s mile record with a 4:10.38, leading four USF runners in the top 10 of the event, all with top-five times in USF history
- Trey Furgeson broke his own 600-meter dash record with a 1:19.17 time
- Teddy Frid improved his school record mark with a runner-up finish in the NSIC heptathlon with 5,083 points
Team Notes
- Men’s 4x800-meter relay of Jase Kraft, Mason Phillips, Billy Beseman and Zach Lundberg broke a 20-year old record with a time of 7:45.04
- Broke a total of three men’s records and set 11 USF all-time top 10 marks
- Hit two automatic qualifying marks and three more provisional qualifying marks

- Old school record was 4,991 points set by teammate Derek Lahm January 27-28 at MSU Open
- Junior Derek Lahm earned All-NSIC honors with third place finish in NSIC heptathlon scoring 4,970 points
