ROCHESTER, Minn. – The 2017 NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships continued Thursday and records continued to fall as St. Cloud State continued to open its lead in search of its third NSIC Championship.  The Huskies sit at 744 points, 164 points ahead of second place Minnesota State (580).  MSU Moorhead remains third with 496 points while Northern State is fourth with 392. 

Two more NSIC records were set in the five finals on Thursday, bringing the total to ten new records after 15 events of the championship.

Thursday night’s finals started with St. Cloud State’s Andrea Bryson winning the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:01.74, just missing the NSIC record by under a second, but marking an NCAA B Standard time.

In the 100 backstroke MSU Moorhead’s Erin Sullivan set a new NSIC record as she recorded the fastest time in NCAA Division II this season with an NCAA A Standard time of 54.24.  Teammate Taylor Beynon took top honors in the 100 breaststroke as she finished in a time of 1:04.69.

Northern State’s Hannah Kastigar set her fourth individual record as she won the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:58.92, which is an NCAA A Standard time. She added another title as part of the 800 freestyle relay, which won with an NCAA provisional time of 7:42.01. Joining Kastigar were Edda Skoric, Kayla Sproles and Kalina Emaus.

The NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships conclude Friday, Feb. 10 at the Rochester Recreation Center in Rochester, Minnesota. Seven NSIC teams will compete over four days for the NSIC Championship.

Friday’s trial sessions will begin at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m. Friday’s races include the 1650 freestyle, the 100 IM, the 100 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, the 200 breaststroke, the 3-meter diving finals and the 400 freestyle relay.
