NSIC Offensive Player of the Week
#12 Brent Lammers (QB, 6-2, 215, Jr., Manchester, Iowa / West Delaware HS)
Upper Iowa

- Threw for 288 yards and 3 touchdowns on 15 completions in 58-14 win versus UMary
- Ran for 37 yards and 2 more touchdowns
- Finished the game with 325 yards of total offense and five touchdowns
- Guided the UIU offense to 548 yards of total offense

NSIC Defensive Player of the Week
#45 Graham Miller (LB, 6-3, 225, So., Minneapolis, Minn. / Washburn HS)
St. Cloud State

- Led the SCSU defense with five tackles including a pair of stops for loss in a 26-14 win over Augie
- Had a 29-yard pick-six to help turn the tide in a 3-0 game and put SCSU up 10-0 midway through the first quarter
- Was his second interception in as many weeks from his linebacker position
- Helped the SCSU defense limit Augustana to 45 yards rushing and 275 yards total in the game

NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week
#5 Jake Balliu (WR, 5-9, 175, So., Lake Villa, Ill. / Community Lakes HS)
Winona State
- Had three punt returns for 114 yards including one touchdown in a 47-7 win at Minot State
- Returned a punt 53 yards for a score to put Warriors up 10-0 early
- Added one kick return for 36 yards for 150 return yards on the day
- Also had a reception for five yards and two rush attempts for 38 yards
- Helped WSU to first 4-0 start since 2003
 
Augustana University Vikings

- The homecoming win is BSU’s eighth straight

- Junior running back Andrew Lackowski rushed for over 100 yards for the first time at BSU with 114 and added 41 receiving yards and one touchdown reception for 27 yards
- Seniors Jordan Hein and Tahi Nomane also carried for over 40 yards each to help BSU to 225 total yards on the ground
- Hein added three touchdown passes to Lackowski, senior wide receiver Christian Lunde and redshirt freshman Mannie Kugmeh
- Junior kicker Isaac Aanerud went 2-of-2 on field goal attempts and totaled 10 points for the BSU offense. He also added five punts, averaging 40.4 yards per kick, with three landing within the 20-yardline
- Senior linebacker Niko Daniello led BSU in tackles for the third straight game with 12 and added two tackles for a loss

- Sophomore Darnell Rolle rushed for career-highs 21 attempts for 163 yards with a touchdown and had 2-15 receiving for a career-high 178 all-purpose yards, adding his sixth special teams tackle
- Rolle is fourth in the NSIC with 336 rushing yards and averages 6.1 per carry
- Senior Elias Arlington had a career-high eight receptions, going for 80 yards and leads CSP with 16 catches for 248 yards
- Sophomore Marcus Gustaveson had three catches for 42 yards and his third TD of the year
- Junior cornerback Dion Wallisch was assigned to shadow All-America wide receiver Damon Gibson, shutting him down to three catches for 24 yards

- The Marauders will host The Originals when UMary hosts Minot State University on Sept. 30, the players from the school’s first varsity team in 1988. This is the 30th season of Marauders football
- Faced a nationally-ranked opponent in two of four games, including both home games, and UMary’s all four opponents have a combined record of 13-3
- The Marauders are 3rd in the NSIC in rushing yards per game at 213.0, despite facing two of the top three run defenses

- Tyson Carney scored on a 56 yard touchdown pass on the Marauders third play of the day – his first collegiate touchdown – and finished with two catches for 62 yards
- Devin Hope ran for 92 yards and a 12-yard touchdown
- Daniel Hudrlik broke up two passes and made eight tackles (six solo)
- Jarad Zittleman made his first collegiate interception – and the first for the Marauders this season – and had six tackles
- Bailey Meyer downed four of his five punts inside the opponent’s 20 yard line and averaged 37.6 yards/attempt with a long of 47 yards

- Minnesota Crookston’s defense limited the Cougars to their second-lowest point output of the season, but were unable to get much going against the nation’s second-ranked defense
- Jeremy Neuman saw his first career action in a back-up role as he came in at quarterback for Joseph Nava. Neuman threw for 126 yards through the air
- The Golden Eagles return home for their Homecoming game and the 14th annual “Hubcap Game” with NSIC North rival Bemidji State University, who is located just 88 miles down U.S. Highway 2
- Minnesota Crookston’s defense gave up their second lowest defensive yardage of the season against Sioux Falls as they have continued to show improvement in the last two games against Wayne State and USF

- Adam Connette continued his strong start to his senior season with five grabs for 41 yards

Team Notes
- This marked the first time UMD went beyond regulation to settle a game since it down Ouachita Baptist University 48-45 in double overtime in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoff
- The Bulldogs rolled up a season-high 468 total yards and 6.2 yards per play at Wayne
- UMD makes it 2017 NSIC North Division debut against visiting St. Cloud State in their second of three Thursday games this fall. UMD is 0-2 at home for the first time since the 1999 season
- Since the NSIC instituted divisional play in 2008, the Bulldogs are a sizzling 56-3 in NSIC North Division assignments (31-0 at home). Besides a 23-15 defeat at Northern State on Oct. 31, 2015, UMD's other losses came in consecutive years at St. Cloud State (51-49 in 2012 and 35-7 in 2011). The Bulldogs are the nine-time NSIC North Division champions.
- UMD has trailed after three quarters in all four of its outings this season and has outscored the opposition 38-20 in the fourth quarter

- Sophomore quarterback Ben Everhart, who was making just his second start ever with the Bulldogs, rolled up 422 yards through the air -- the third highest single-game total in team history -- and a pair of touchdowns while connecting on 27 of 44 throws against Wayne
- Like Everhart, junior wide out Jason Balts had a monster afternoon, catching nine passes (equaling his career best) for 217 yards and one score (a 32-yard second-quarter strike)
- He also even took one snap at quarterback; those 217 yards were just 32 yards shy of the UMD program record and the third most ever turned in by a Bulldog
- UMD, which came into Saturday with just two total sacks on the year, registered four (for a minus-35 yards) in the triumph over Wayne State
- Both first-year freshmen cornerback Justic’e King and junior cornerback Dennis Archibald, a 2017 transfer, picked up their first interceptions as Bulldogs

Team Notes
- The Wolves were overpowered by the nationally ranked Mavericks, and MSU tallied touchdowns in three of the four quarters
- Northern notched 83 yards rushing and 133 yards passing, while Minnesota State tallied 254 yards rushing and 158 yards passing
- The Wolves averaged 11.1 yards per completion, while the Mavericks averaged just 8.8

- Jake Comeaux threw for 91 yards with nine completions and a 24 yard long to Zech Culbreath
- Noah MacPherson led the Wolves defense with eight tackles, followed by Preston Droessler with seven. Droessler notched two tackles for a total loss of eight yards, including the Wolves lone sack
- Jacob Wiedrich averaged 33.6 yards per punt with a 56 yard long, punting for 235 total yards

Team Notes
- For USF, the 34-0 shutout of Minnesota-Crookston was the first since a 49-0 road win over Concordia-St. Paul on Oct. 31, 2015 in St. Paul, Minnesota
- The Cougars’ last home shut out was a 36-0 win over St. Cloud State on Sept. 19, 2014
- USF leads the nation in rushing defense (28.8 yards per game) and sacks (19, 4.75 per game) while ranking second in total defense (185.8 ypg) and scoring defense (5.2 ppg)
- For the third straight game, USF defense allowed just seven points while holding an opponent under 200 yards in total offense for the second straight week
- USF's league-leading defense has allowed no more than 210 total yards in any game this season
- For the first time in USF's NCAA DII era, the Cougars have held an opponent to seven points or less for four consecutive games
- The Cougars have built a 135-21 point differential through wins over North Division opponents UMD (26-7) and Mary (38-7) on the road, NSU (37-7) and Minnesota Crookston (34-0) at Bob Young Field
- USF leads NSIC in total defense (196.3 ypg), scoring defense (7.0 ppg) and rushing defense (29.0 per game)
- Cougars, the defending NSIC champs, won their 15th straight game in league play

- All-American running back Max Mickey had 180 yards rushing on 24 carries with a TD vs Minnesota Crookston
- As a result, he now has 3,444 career rushing yards, which ranks fifth all-time at USF. Mickey recorded his 17th 100-yard rushing game, which is fourth best in school history
- Senior Jason Towns had eight carries for 101 yards and scored a 41-yard TD run and a 66 yard punt return for USF
- Towns, who had 169 all-purpose yards, scored two TDs for the second straight week, a first in his career
- Senior defensive back Ayinde Warren had a team-high seven tackles, two tackles for loss and his third interception of the season

Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs
Last Week Season Record Streak Preseason Poll
L 40-22 at BSU 2-2, 0-0 South L1 8th Overall / 5th South
Team Notes
- SMSU had its two-game winning streak snapped at Bemidji State last Saturday
- SMSU finished 2-2 versus NSIC North teams this season and is 9-3 over the last three seasons
- Senior WR Nate Huot had seven receptions on Saturday and now is tied for the NSIC career receptions record with 210. Brian Jark of Northern State (2006-09) also had 210 during his career
- SMSU senior quarterback Blake Gimbel played just two series for SMSU for the second straight week before leaving with an injury
- Junior Connor Wilkie quarterback finished the game and completed 23 of 39 pass attempts for 248 yards
- Senior Ashanti Payne rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown in the loss
- Sophomore running back Max Simmons missed the BSU game with an injury
- SMSU forced one turnover in the loss at BSU and now has 11 on the season ranking 13th in Division II

- Junior linebacker Shane Ratkovich recorded a career-high nine tackles with 2.5 for loss, one sack and also forced a fumble in the loss at BSU

St. Cloud State University Huskies
Last Week Season Record Streak Preseason Poll
W, 26-14 vs. Augustana 3-1, 0-0 North W2 10th overall, 5th in North
Team Notes
- The Huskies made it two victories in a row and three in the first four games
- The 3-1 start is the best for the program since starting the year with a 4-0 mark in 2013
- SCSU defeated Augustana for the 22nd time in 37 all-time games with the 26-14 victory
- The Huskies earned the win despite being outgained 275 to 231 in the game due in part to getting three interceptions
- The program that came into the game leading the NCAA in time of possession held the ball for 37:05 and currently second nationally this week (37:57)
- SCSU also held Augustana to 45 yards rushing and are second nationally in that category (40.5)
Top Performer(s)
- Justin Czech got his first career start and connected on 10 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown
- Gregory Lewis ran for 58 yards and a touchdown
- Lewis has a recorded at least a rushing touchdown in three of the first four games this season
- John Pass caught four passes for 63 yards and touchdown
- Graham Miller led the defense with five tackles, two stops for loss and a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown
- Carvel Graham had five tackles and an interception
- Adam Stage connected on a 46-yard field goal and 22-yard field goal and has now made five field goals this season

Upper Iowa University Peacocks
Last Week Season Record Streak Preseason Poll
W 58-14 vs UMary 3-1, 0-0 South W2 11th Overall, 7th South
Team Notes
- The Peacocks trailed only once on the night and the four-point deficit only lasted 44 seconds
- A 74-yard hookup between Brent Lammers and Keagan Pinter put the Peacocks ahead 10-7 with eight and a half minutes to play in the first quarter
- UIU gained 548 yards of total offense on the night
- The Peacocks took their 10-7 lead into the second quarter and then scored 21 in the second quarter and 20 in the third to push their lead to 51-7 heading into the final quarter
- Upper Iowa made the most of their 23 minutes of possession and kept the chains moving when they needed to by converting 9 of their 14 third downs
- Upper Iowa wrapped up another successful NSIC cross-division run with a 3-1 record this season
- The team is 16-8 against the NSIC North Division since the conference was split into two divisions prior to the 2012 season when Sioux Falls and Minot State joined the league
- UIU has gone 3-1 three times and 4-0 once in 2014
Top Performer(s)
- Quarterback Brent Lammers led the Peacock offense to 548 yards of total offense including 288 through the air
- The junior completed 15 of his 22 passes and did have one interception, but also threw three touchdowns
- The scoring throws included the slant to Pinter, a broken-play, deep-ball down the sideline to Jarred Edmonds after Lammers avoided a sack and the final touchdown throw came on a go-route down the sideline to Edmonds
- The three touchdown throws accounted for 157 yards
- While Lammers was moving the Peacocks through the air, the offensive line was opening holes for both he and the running backs. Lammers ran for 37 yards and two touchdowns, but the bulk of the running came from Ryan Parmely, who gained 121 yards and scored a touchdown on 18 carries, and Jon Deprey, who rushed for 82 yards and a score on 13 carries. UIU averaged 5.8 yards a carry in the game while posting 260 yards and four touchdowns on the ground as a group
- Tate Thompson and Mitchel Siech bottled up the middle of the field from their linebacker positions combining for 17 tackles; Siech's 8 stops included a half sack
- Upper Iowa also recovered 3 fumbles thanks to the good hands of Tristan BeyerIsaac Freese and Beau Sorenson
- Sorenson made the most of his recovery returning it 52 yards for a touchdown which put the home team ahead 58-7 in the fourth quarter
- Christian Ruff made an impact on the defensive line as well with 6 tackles including a pair of tackles for loss
- Jordan Wymer and Jordan Rommes also picked off a Marauder pass to put the UIU offense back on the field
- Brady Beuschel also got in the scoring column with 10 points thanks to a 21-yard field goal to open the scoring and seven extra points

- Senior quarterback Zach Osborn completed 28 of 46 passes for 380 yards and two TD’s
- With 356 yards of total offense, Osborn moves past 10,000 yard mark in total offense (10,281) at Wayne State
