ABERDEEN, S.D. - The University of Mary won its third straight NSIC Women's Cross Country Championship, in convincing fashion as the Marauders scored 16 teams points after placing five runners in the top six. Leading the way for the Marauders was Jaiden Schuette, who covered 6,000-meter course in a time of 21:10.0. The Marauders had runners place, first, second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh to dominate the field.
Finishing second was UMary’s Ida Narbuvoll with a time of 21:17.20 while Emily Roberts was third with a time of 21:20.30. Roberts was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year as she was the top finisher competing in her first year of NSIC competition.
The Marauders’ Head Dennis Newell was voted by his peers as the NSIC Coach of Year for the third straight season.
The top ten finishers are named All-NSIC First Team while finishers 11-20 earn All-NSIC Second Team honors.
Augustana’s Leah Seivert was awarded the NSIC Elite 18 Award during the championship presentation. Seivert, who won the same award last year for outdoor track & field, had the highest cumulative GPA of all the student-athletes competed at the women’s championship. The Sibley, Iowa native is a four time All-NSIC runner as she placed 18th at this year's Cross Country Champions. Last season she finished 17th at the NSIC Championships to earn All-NSIC Second Team honors and in 2014 and 2015 she earned first team honors, with her best placing being second in 2015.
Next action for NSIC Cross Country will be at the NCAA Regional, which will take place in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 17th. The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, December 1 at Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania as part of the NCAA DII Fall Sports Festival.
