MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State senior
Natalie Gottschalk earned the NSIC Pentathlon Championship as the 2017-18 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship got underway on Sunday from Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota. Gottschalk improved her NCAA Provisional score and set two personal records as she finished with 3703 points. The converted score of 3725 ranks as the fourth best score in Division II this season.
Gottschalk finished 19 points ahead of Wakpor Ighovojah of the Concordia-St. Paul, who scored 3684 points. Gottschalk won three of the five events as she closed strong with wins in the long jump and the 800m run. Earlier in the day she won the high jump with a personal best jump of 1.66m (5-5.25). Her other personal best came in the long jump where she leaped 5.57m (18-3.25). She won the 800m by over three seconds as she finished in a time of 2:21:37. She also finished fourth in the 60m hurdles in 9.17 and ninth in the shot put with a throw of 9.78m (32-1).
In all, the top four finishers in the pentathlon scored over the NCAA provisional mark of 3295 in the competition.
The NSIC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships continue Friday and Saturday, February 23-24 from Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota.
