Robert Sullivan repeated as NSIC Heptathlon Champion as the 2017-18 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship got underway on Sunday and Monday from Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota. Sullivan scored an NCAA Provisional score of 5202 as he improved upon his school record score. The score ranks in the top ten performances of Division II this season.
Sullivan finished 139 points ahead of teammate Derek Lahm, who scored 5063 points. Sullivan, a junior from Bennington, Nebraska, won three of the seven events contested in the heptathlon, taking first in the shot put (12.52m / 41-1), high jump (2.04m / 6-8.25) and 60-meter hurdles (8.47) while placing second in the long jump (6.86 / 22-6.25) and fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.40) and pole vault (4.10m / 13-5.25).
In all, the top seven finishers in the heptathlon scored over the NCAA provisional mark of 4671 in the competition. Minnesota State’s Jack Curtis finished third with 5061 and joins Sullivan and Lahm as All-NSIC performers.
The NSIC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championships continue Friday and Saturday, February 23-24 from Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota.
