MSU leads NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships after day one

WEST FARGO, N.D. – The 2018 NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships got underway with four event finals taking place on Wednesday night from the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, North Dakota.  Minnesota State leads after day one with 168 team points and holds a 13 point lead over St. Cloud State.    

Augustana took the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle as Taylor Beagle won with a time of 10:17.11. Second was teammate Emma Miller in a time of 10:22.33 followed by Kelsey Gilbert with a time of 10:28.25.  All three were honored as All-NSIC performers for finishing in the top three.

In the 200 individual medley it was Minnesota State’s Taylor Bass winning in a time of 2:04.92. Finishing second MSU's Chelsea Calhoon with a time of 2:05.19 while Ashley Wilson of St. Cloud State was third in a time of 2:07.04.

St. Cloud State's Andrea Bryson won the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.23, while MSU's Cecilia Hake was second at 23.30.  Jen Thompson of St. Cloud State was third with a time of 23.62. 

In the 200-medley relay both Sioux Falls and Minnesota State earned All-NSIC honors for finishing first and second. USF won the event with a time of 1:44.23 while MSU came in with a time of 1:44.26. USF's team consisted of Cassie Wright, Chantal Kasch, Maike Doerr and Ingelin Lima.  The MSU team was comprised of Ceclia Hake, Lily Borgenheimer, Kyler Gaeth and Maggie Knier. 

The NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships continue through Saturday, Feb. 17. Seven NSIC teams will compete over four days for the NSIC Championship.

Thursday’s trial sessions will begin at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m. Thursday will have the the 200 freestyle relay, the 400 IM, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the one-meter diving competition and the 400 medley relay.
 
The top three finalists in each individual event and top two finalists in each relay event will be recognized as NSIC All-Conference during the meet. A Swimmer of the Year, Diver of the Year, Freshman of Year, Swim Coach of the Year and Dive Coach of the Year will also be voted on by the coaches during the event. Finally, at the conclusion of the meet, the swimmer with the most points will be named the NSIC Swimmer of the Meet and the diver with the most points will be named NSIC Diver of the Meet.
