MSU WINS SEVENTH STRAIGHT NSIC INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State won its seventh straight NSIC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship as events wrapped up from Myers Field House. The Mavericks, which also won their ninth championship in the last ten years, totaled 184.5 team points to finished 96.5 points ahead of second place University of Mary.   

The University of Mary’s Luxon Glor earned NSIC high point performer as he scored 26 points after winning the 60m dash in 6.85, placing second in the 200m dash in 22.00, third in the long jump at 7.05m (23-1.75) and seventh in the triple jump at 14.01 (45-11.75).

In all, five NSIC records were broken during the championship.  MSU’s Isaiah Pitchford ran a 48.36 in the 400m to break the 2017 record of 48.44 held by MSU’s John Schuster.  Schuster put his name back in the books as he won the 600m in 1:19.85 to break the 2015 mark of 1:20.11 ran by Keith Turner of MSU Moorhead.

Sioux Falls’ Mason Phillips won the mile in an NSIC record time of 4:09.74 to break the 2017 record of 4:10.82 set by USF’s Jase Kraft.
 
SMSU’s Bashir Aidrus ran an NSIC record time of 14:33.86 in the 5000m besting the 2017 record 14:39.66 held by Augustana’s Glen Ellingson. 
 
On Friday in the DMR, Augustana’s Zach Tuschen, Ryan Stiles, Josh Barrows and Austin Miller ran a NSIC record time of 10:11.86, besting the 2013 UMD record of 10:14.37.    

The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org. The NCAA National Championships will take place on March 9-10 at the PSU Indoor Event Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, Feb 27 at approximately 5 p.m.
