SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Jacey Huinker of the University of Sioux Falls is the NSIC Elite 18 Award winner for women’s basketball.  Huinker was presented the award during the pregame of the NSIC/Sanford Health Women's Basketball quarterfinal game on Sunday at the Sanford Pentagon.  Huinker is one of three Cougars to earn the award as she joins Evan Hagen (outdoor track & field -2017) and Austin Schaffer (football - 2017).

Huinker is a junior majoring in nursing and holds a 4.00 grade point average. The Altoona, Iowa, native has started all 26 games for the Cougars this season and was named to the NSIC A and leads the team in rebounding (9.8 rpg), assists (3.2 apg) and steals (1.4 spg). Huinker led the league in defensive rebounding this season, averaging 7.6 defensive rebounds per game. She led the Cougars with 36 steals and her NSIC-season average of 1.4 steals per game was tied for 14th in the league. She had a team-high 82 assists and an NSIC-leading 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio, which is the fifth highest mark in NCAA Division II.

As part of the NSIC 25th Anniversary celebration, the NSIC Elite 18 Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the NSIC Championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The NSIC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NSIC’s 18 Championships.

Selection Criteria
1. Academically the student-athlete has achieved at least a sophomore status as defined by his or her own institution.

2. Athletically the student-athlete is in his or her second year of competition at his or her current institution.
