All-Conference Performers
MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Mary won the 2017-18 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship as the Marauders amassed 150 points to knock off two-time defending champs of Minnesota State by 26.6 points. This marks the sixth indoor women’s championship for the Marauders, the first since 2015. MSU was second with 123.50 while Augustana was third with 87 points.
The University of Mary’s Alexis Zeis earned NSIC high point performer as she scored 30 points for the Marauders. Zeis won the mile, the 3000m and 5000m runs during the championships.
Two records were broken at the championships this year. UMD’s Daniel Kohlwey ran the 60m-hurldes in 8.29 to break the 2016 record of 8.36 held by MSU’s Altoniece Williams. Kohlwey’s time ranks as the fastest in Division II this season. Augustana’s Carly Rahn ran an NSIC record 2:12.20 in the 800m to break the 2017 mark of 2:12.26 held by MSU’s Haley Kruger.
The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the
NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.
The NCAA National Championships will take place on March 9-10 at the PSU Indoor Event Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, Feb 27 at approximately 5 p.m.
