MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State won its eighth straight NSIC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship as events wrapped up from Myers Field House. The Mavericks, which also won their tenth championship in the last 11 years, totaled 212 team points to finished 97 points ahead of second place University of Mary.
The University of Mary’s Luxon Glor repeated as NSIC high point performer as he scored 34 points after winning the 60m dash in 6.76, the 200m dash in 21.72 and the long jump at 24-05. He was also fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 47-09.25 as he help UMary score 115 points.
In all, four NSIC records were broken during the championship. Minnesota State’s John Schuster won the 400m in a time 47.87 to break Isaiah Pitchford’s mark of 48.36 ran last season. In the 1000m, MSU’s Jacob Wahlers set a record with a time of 2:26.61 surpassing Jon Stoltman’s 2010 time of 2:28.88.
On Friday the record setting DMR team from Sioux Falls consisted of Jase Kraft, Logan Hansen, Billy Beseman and Mason Phillips. The team ran a time of 10:06.50 to break the 2018 record of 10:11.86 previously held by Augustana. Also, on Friday in the men’s high jump, it was MSU Moorhead sophomore Chris Cook setting the record with a leap of 7-00.25 to break the previous record of 6-11.75 held by MSU’s Jeff DeCock and Keyvan Rudd.
The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.
The NCAA National Championships will take place on March 8-9 at the PSU Indoor Event Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, Feb 26 at approximately 5 p.m.
