MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Mary repeated as NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship as the Marauders amassed 163.50 points to win by 48 over Minnesota State. This marks the seventh indoor women’s championship for the Marauders. MSU was second with 115.50 while Augustana was third with 111 points.
Augustana University’s Olivia Montez Brown earned NSIC high point performer as she scored 25 points for the Vikings. Montez Brown won the pentathlon (3712), the long jump (18-09.75 and was fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.72).
Two records were broken at the championships this year. UMary’s Monique McPherson ran a 2:11.11 in the 800m to set a new record, surpassing the 2:12.20 ran by Augustana’s Carly Rahn last season. UMD’s Danielle Kohlwey broke the 2017 record in the 200m dash of MSU’s Afure Adah (24.53) as she surged at the end for a time of 24.51.
The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.
The NCAA National Championships will take place on March 8-9 at the PSU Indoor Event Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, Feb 26 at approximately 5 p.m.
