MSU Moorhead’s Jill Safranski earns NSIC Elite 18 award for women’s golf

MORTON, Minn.  –  Jill Safranski of Minnesota State University Moorhead was named the 2019 NSIC Elite 18 Award winner for women’s golf.  Safranski was presented the award during the post-championship awards ceremony of the NSIC Women’s Golf Championship, which was held the at Dacotah Ridge Golf Course in Morton, Minnesota.  Safranski is the first student-athlete from MSU Moorhead to earn the NSIC Elite 18 Award since its inception in 2016-17.

Safranski is a sophomore majoring in Accounting and holds a 4.00 grade point average.  The Thief River Falls, Minnesota native holds an 96.1 stroke average this season over 17 rounds. Her low round this season was 89 during the UMC/MSUM dual last October. Safranski finished 53rd at the NSIC Championship and helped the Dragons to an 11th place finish. 

As part of the NSIC 25th Anniversary celebration, the NSIC Elite 18 Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the NSIC Championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The NSIC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NSIC’s 18 Championships.
