Upper Iowa's Kortney Lightfoot earns NSIC Elite 18 Award for women’s outdoor track & field

NSIC Elite 18 Award

DUUTH, Minn. - Kortney Lightfoot of Upper Iowa University was named the 2019 NSIC Elite 18 Award winner for women’s outdoor track & field. Lightfoot was presented the award during the post championship ceremony at the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which were held the past two days at Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota. Lightfoot  is the third student-athlete from Upper Iowa earn the NSIC Elite 18 Award, joining Monica Rohe (women's golf -2017) and Ethan Ducharme (men's golf -2018).

Lightfoot is a junior majoring in criminal justice and holds a 4.00 grade point average. The Dubuque, Iowa native was part of the 4X100 team that finish in 11th at the NSIC Championships with a season best time of 49.96.  During the 2019 outdoor track and field season, Lightfoot has competed for the Peacocks in six different events including the 100 meter dash, the 100 meter hurdles, the 200 meter run, the 400 meter hurdles, the 4 x 100 meter relay and the long jump.

As part of the NSIC 25th Anniversary celebration during the 2016-17 academic year, the NSIC Elite 18 Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the NSIC Championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The NSIC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NSIC’s 18 Championships
