Grob is Minnesota’s all-time leader in collegiate victories with a record of 1,020-563-10. He is one of seven in NCAA Division II Baseball coaches to reach 1,000 career victories and just one of 42 in all of NCAA baseball divisions history to reach the milestone. Grob’s involvement and career at Winona State spanned over six decades and 44 years, he has spent 41 years as a Winona State student, coach and instructor. He came to Winona State as a student in 1959, after a hitch in the United States Marine Corps. He competed on the varsity baseball team for four seasons and played in 32 games, including games the Warriors played in the 1961 and 1962 NAIA World Series. After teaching two years in Oshkosh, WI, Grob returned to Winona State to seek his Master’s Degree and in the process was hired as assistant baseball coach. Upon earning his Master’s Degree and after assisting for two seasons, Grob became the Warrior head coach in 1965. From there Grob has remained the head baseball coach, with the exception of 1975 when he took a sabbatical to attend the University of Utah to earn his Doctorate Degree, for 35 seasons. During his career Grob recorded a 441-143 record in NSIC play and in the process won 17 conference championships. Three times his teams advanced to the NCAA II regional tournament play. Grob has been recognized by his peers be being elected into both the NAIA and American Baseball Coach’s Association Halls of Fame.
