Schumacher was a four-year letter winner in basketball, volleyball and softball at Minnesota State University Moorhead from 1974-78. Schumacher was a three-time All-Minn-Kota Conference selection in volleyball and was a Minnesota All-State softball selection. She was also honored with the Flora Frick award in 1976-77 as Minnesota State Moorhead’s Outstanding Senior Athlete. Schumacher helped the Dragons finish second at the 1977 MAIAW State Championships in softball as the team posted a 20-5 record. She also helped lead the Dragons to two Minn-Kota Conference runner-up finishes in volleyball. chumacher still holds the single-season RBI mark of 44 set during the 1976 season. A physical education teacher and coach at Moorhead High School, Schumacher led Moorhead to the 1988 Minnesota State Class AA Volleyball championship and to runner-up finishes in 1981, 1985 and 1986. Active in youth sports through clinics and camps, Schumacher was named to the Dragon Hall of Fame in 1989.
