Haigh served as the Faculty Athletics Representative at Northern State from 1981 to 2003. A Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, Haigh served on the faculty at Northern State for 40 years. He began the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) position when Northern State was still an NAIA member, serving as FAR before the merger of the men’s Northern Intercollegiate Conference (NIC) and the women’s Northern Sun Conference (NSC). Haigh encouraged the combining of the two leagues into one, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). He was also instrumental in the league adopting the practice of the men’s and women’s basketball teams travel together and schedule games for the same nights. Haigh attended conference meetings and national conventions for 22 years in his role as FAR. He provided leadership for two NCAA Self-Studies at Northern State and chaired Northern State’s Athletic Committee for several years. He also introduced and authored an instrument for “exit interviews” for student-athletes. A member of the Aberdeen Softball Hall of Fame, Haigh still attends as many sporting events at Northern State as possible. Haigh served eight terms as President of Northern State’s Faculty Senate and has published several referred articles in mathematics journals. He has also received numerous grants and awards for his work in the area of mathematics. In addition, Haigh is active in the local Aberdeen community, serving as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of the Aberdeen Federal Credit Union, a member of the endowment committee and bus
driver for Plymouth Church, a volunteer at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, and a driver for “Meals on Wheels.”
