Yurek, Florian (Lefty) Ziemer, Gladys Jerry Hoy Class 1983 Induction 2004 Sport(s) Hoy, a four-year member of the wrestling team, graduated from Minnesota Duluth in 1983 with a degree in industrial technology. During his four years with the Bulldogs, Hoy posted an impressive record of 103-18-1 (for a .848 winning percentage). He attained All-American honors in 1982 after placing second at 118 pounds at the NCAA Division II Championships. As a senior, Hoy also captained Minnesota Duluth to its first-ever NIC title and was selected as the NIC’s Outstanding Wrestler. He remains the only Bulldog individual to compete in and NCAA Division I national event, accomplishing this feat at the 1982 championships in Ames, Iowa and finished the year as the 13th-ranked 118 pound wrestler in all of college wrestling. The 1981-82 Minnesota Duluth Outstanding Senior Athlete, Hoy owned the school single-season record for 14 years as he posted a winning percentage of .917 as he went 33-3-0 in 1980-81. After Minnesota Duluth, Hoy was employed by the United States Air Force as a pilot for 11 years. He flew 32 combat support missions as part of Desert Storm. Hoy won a pair of U.S. Air Force individual championships in 1986 and 1987 and captured the 1987 Armed Forces title at 125.5 pounds. Hoy currently lives in Markville, Minn., where he works as a realtor.
