Wanshura was a three-year member of the Winona State baseball team. In 1988, Wanshura was named to the NAIA First-Team at the NAIA World Series. He was also named a first-team NAIA All-American in 1988 and to the NAIA All-America second team in 1989. An All-Conference selection in 1987, 1988 and 1989, Wanshura was also an NAIA All-Area selection in 1988 and 1989 and an All-District selection in 1987, 1988 and 1989. As a sophomore, Wanshura was the second-ranked hitter in the league and as a junior, led the league in six offensive categories (average, doubles, total bases, runs batted in, hits, and runs) and broke conference records in five categories (average, doubles, total bases, runs batted in, and hits). His singleseason batting average of .590 still stands as a conference record. During his three years, the Warriors complied a 41-12 conference record and 103-58 overall record. Wanshura helped lead Winona State to three NAIA District 13 titles, on NAIA Area IV Championship and a trip to the 1988 NAIA World Series. The team captain in 1988 and 1989, Wanshura holds several individual and career records and played on three consecutive conference championship teams (1887, 1988, 1989) which were in the middle of the eight consecutive won by the Warriors (1984 through 1991). Wanshura continued his career, playing town team baseball for the state champion Bloomington Bulldogs and won a national championship in the Men’s USSSA “A” Softball Tournament. A board member of the Maple Grove Youth Hockey Association, Wanshura has coached youth baseball, softball, hockey and football since 1996.
