WINONA, MN – Winona State earned a 3-0 victory over MSU Moorhead in the team’s regular season finale, claiming the NSIC Regular Season title for the eighth consecutive season.
Winona State finished its regular season with a 14-3-1 overall record and a 12-1 mark in conference play. They totaled 36 points (3 pts win, 1 pt tie) in the NSIC.
On Senior Day at Verizon Wireless Stadium, freshman Taylor Zehren scored with less than four minutes off the clock, providing the only goal the team would need for the victory.
The Warriors added a second goal in the game’s 43rd minute as Jenna Jares found the back of the net off a pass from Alaina Kne. The team added an insurance goal in the second half with Amanda Dennis collecting a loose ball in front of the net for the score.
Goalkeeper Anna Belpedio pitched her tenth shutout of the season while making eight saves. The Warriors outshot MSU Moorhead 18-10 on the day.
Winona State will be in action on Wednesday when it hosts the opening round of the NSIC/US Bank Tournament. Game time is set for 5 pm. The NSIC / US Bank Tournament bracket will be released later on Sunday evening.
