WAYNE, NEB. – The Northern State women’s basketball (2-0, 0-0 NSIC) continued the trend of the day for Northern athletics, as they upended Colorado School of Mines (0-2, 0-0 RMAC) 62-50, in the Wayne State Tip-off Classic.

The first half, which featured the Orediggers taking a ten point advantage with 8:50 remaining in the half, was tied at 29 apiece as the horn sounded signaling the intermission.

With a clean slate to start the second period, junior Sarah Hintz got the Wolves on the board on a layup to start the half on a positive note for the Wolves.

That is all the Wolves would need, as they jumped out to a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. A free throw and a layup, both coming from senior Jenna Higgins, would boost the Wolves lead to five before the Orediggers even got a shot off in the second frame.

The Wolves would lead by as many as 20 points with 2:42 remaining in the game, with that lead coming from a Mikayla Barondeau jump shot.

Freshman Sadie Stotesbery shot 6-12 from the field, leading all scores with 13 points. Emily Becken had ten points for the Wolves as the only other player in double-digits.

Hintz had a solid game for the Wolves as she had seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

The Wolves defense held CSM to just 34 percent shooting, while making 43.4 percent of their own shots.

The Wolves continue their non-conference schedule as they travel to the Black Hills next weekend, with an 8 p.m. matchup with Black Hill State in Spearfish, S.D.
