NSIC Offensive Player of the Year &  NSIC Offensive Newcomer of the Year
#31 Chris Smith (RB, 5-8, 180, Fr., Brown Deer, Wis. / Brown Deer HS)
Upper Iowa University

Chris Smith was voted by the league coaches as NSIC Offensive Player of the Year and NSIC Offensive Newcomer of the Year. The true freshman ran into the record books as he posted two games with over 200 yards rushing in back-to-back weeks against Southwest Minnesota State and Wayne State. His 287 yards versus the Wildcats are the most yards rushed in a game by a UIU player, while his 230 yards against the Mustangs are fourth best in Peacock history. The Brown Deer, Wis. native accumulated 1,188 yards and 9 touchdowns on 154 carries in NSIC games, while missing 8 quarters of action due to injury. He topped the 100-yard mark six times and posted an impressive 7.7 yards per carry average in NSIC games. Smith added 8 receptions for 97 yards out of the back field to lead the Peacocks in all-purpose yards/game with 142.8. He was twice named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week this season following games against MSU Moorhead and Wayne State. His 132.0 rushing yards/game and his 142.8 all purpose yards/game in the NSIC were both second most, while his 9 touchdowns are 8th most in the conference. Smith set two high marks for the NSIC this season; his 287 yards on 10/29 were the most by any NSIC player this year in a game and his 80 yard run that day was the longest by any NSIC player this season. Overall, Smith ran for 1,212 yards, fourth most in a season by a Peacock running back, on 169 carries; he ranks 12th nationally for rushing yards/game 121.2 and 44th in all-purpose yards/game with 130.9.

NSIC Defensive Player of the Year
#32 Brody Scheff (S, 6-0, 206, Sr., Waconia, Minn. / Waconia HS)
Bemidji State University

Brody Scheff was voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year as he finished his senior season seventh in the NSIC in tackles with 91 (41 solo) for the No. 7 scoring defensive in the nation. His four interceptions in conference play finished tied for first. He was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week twice (Oct. 10 and Nov. 7) this season and earned D2Football.com National Defense Player of the Week honors Oct. 11. He earned the conference and national player of the week award after tying a BSU program record (Since 1971) for interceptions in a game with three. He also had 11 tackles in the 20-7 homecoming victory against Concordia University, St. Paul Oct. 8. Scheff posted a career-high 19 tackles twice this season, both coming against nationally-ranked opponents and tying for second most by an NSIC player in a game in 2011. He had 19 tackles and his first-career sack in the 26-23 loss to then-No. 11 University of Minnesota, Duluth Sept. 24 and posted 19 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the 19-14 upset victory against then-No. 6 St. Cloud State Nov. 5 that earned him his second weekly conference laurel. Scheff started all 10 NSIC games and added three tackles for loss (-9 yards), two sacks (-8 yards), two fumble recoveries, a pass break-up and a forced fumble in league play this season. Scheff owns a 3.65 GPA in business and was named to the Capital One All-Academic All-District VII College Division First-Team for his efforts in the classroom. His six overall interceptions (T-15th nationally) tied five other BSU players for third on the interceptions list in a season, while his 10 career interceptions ties for sixth most in a career at BSU. His 96 tackles (42 solo) was a career-high and finished tied for the eighth in the conference. He led the team in tackles two of his four seasons at BSU and compiled 244 tackles in his career to fall 22 short of BSU’s career top 10 list.
